Good Omens, Unspoken, and Earwig and the Witch

I strongly suspect that all of you who care about this already know. But I did not know! And I am excited!

There is going to be a miniseries of Good Omens.

I also found out today that Sarah Rees Brennan is doing a Gothic novel! And Gothic novels are MY VERY FAVOURITE GENRE. (Tied with children’s adventure and fantasy, which is why The Secret Garden is what I wrote my dissertation on.) I like her Demon’s Lexicon books an awful lot but I don’t quite love them - I’m not sure why, because there’s a lot in those books that very much appeals to my interests. (Sibling love and betrayal = sign me up!) And I think perhaps Unspoken will be the one for me.

On the subject of books and passion - I commemorated a year without Diana Wynne Jones by finally reading her last book, Earwig and the Witch. ( I enjoyed it a lot )

Even if being an Avengers fan with this username makes people assume I am a bb!fan. I have had a response or two on the Thor kinkmeme that was blatantly someone kindly explaining to me how kinkmemes work :D

STILL LACK A LAPTOP OMG. But I’ve now seen Avengers Assemble twice. (Would’ve been three times but shit kicked off - and incidentally, kids, I currently lack a phone so plz email me if you need me.) Major feeling about the film?

It’s like a present to me from Marvel. It’s like Joss Whedon put all my obsessions and loves and sparkles and wrapped them in a bow. I am SO HAPPY.

GRUMPY LOKIFAN IS GRUMPY.

Not enormously so, because I haz a kitty, and he makes all things better. But still. I am BATTLING with this fic. And it’s really, really late, and meant for someone I both admire and like a lot, and ARGH. I AM SO CLOSE I CAN TASTE IT. But I keep forcing more words and they’re just not good words. I am okay with forcing out a few hundred words if I’ll keep them mostly the same, and I’m okay with just splurging out a thousand words that will be mostly rewritten. Forcing stuff that’s no good anyway is just the worst of both worlds.

BUT I’M SO CLOSE I CAN TASTE IT.

Also, Eastercon is happening right now and I am not there. Which is a sad. Especially since there’d be no better place to discuss Christopher Priest’s HILARIOUS epic meltdown over this year’s Arthur C. Clarke Award shortlist.

HMPH. Today started well - watching Black Butler and hanging out with meredyth_13 and son_of_darkness, and eating these INSANE burgers Mere made us, with cheese and bacon and A FRIED EGG. Then I got on the tube to go and see Hunger Games with melusinahp and mokatiki. Only I got to Canary Wharf, got on the train that was going to take me to London Bridge, and was told ACTUALLY NO. Signal failure. Which made it impossible for me to get to the cinema remotely on time.

Saturday rec post: what do we have here?

YOU GUYS. STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND GO AND READ FAIRY DUST.

YOU MAY HAVE DONE THAT ALREADY, SINCE I AM ALL THE BELATED. IN THAT CASE, FEEL THE JOY OF RE-READING.

So Fairy Dust is by one of my favourite writers, gypsyflame. And it’s Harry/Draco/Ron, which is my favourite threesome. And it was written for my prompt, and Harry and Ron are Aurors, and Draco really really gets off on humiliation and Harry and Ron are allies who surprise each other and it just fills me with so much joy.

The first line - “So, what do we have here?” - is perfect. It sets everything up in a few words and signposts much hotness.

The fic is really twisted, actually, and the con comes with a dub-. I found it v hot though - I love the idea of the whole Auror department discussing what they do with Draco Malfoy when they catch him.

It’s got just what I love about H/R/D, too - Ron's easy physical dominance, the two of them overwhelming Draco together (OMG Draco saying "too much" and Harry coming) and Harry and Ron are such easy, friendly comrades in fucking Draco senseless.

Happy birthday to me

I am not properly back from hiatus - the course finished on Friday, but there is lots of RL STUFF going on! But I do have time to do a belated thank-you post, for all my birthday goodies.

I got really adorable vgifts: a nommable chocolate torte from winter_june, heart balloons from kitty_fic, a quill and ink from austen_kiss, party hats from hull1984, and balloons from nenne. Thank you all so much! The birthday message from drarryxlover was also very much appreciated :) Oh, and the very sweet birthday posts from murielle, shapinglight, and alisanne were lovely.

AND. I got BIRTHDAY FIC. It was very exciting!! babydracky, sweet as ever, posted an angsty H/D ficlet with a Thor-n-Loki bday banner at the top, because she wins at ALL the fandoms. And at being adorable. AND secretlypadfoot, who apparently has some crazy secret agenda to give me a heart attack, I don’t even know, posted SURPRISE NEVILLE/DRACO SPANKING FIC. LIKE A BOSS. DRACO YELLS FOR NEVILLE TO STOP AND THEN FOLLOWS HIM IN A HALF-BUTTONED SHIRT LIKE ‘WHY’D YOU STOP?’ AND NEVILLE IS ALL GENTLE BUT DOMLY AND GAGS HIM WITH A SLYTHERIN TIE. NO I CANNOT TURN OFF THE CAPSLOCK RIGHT NOW.

In the more RL-ish realm, I also got these GORGEOUS pinky-purpley hand-knit gloves from mokatiki and my very own copy of How I Live Now from dora_the_nymph. SO PLEASED. And son_of_darkness gave me what we’ve christened the Slut Shoes. They are bright red with six-inch heels. He’s got a pair that’s a bit bigger, and neither of us can walk in them for very long. But that doesn’t matter much, since walking is manifestly not the activity the Slut Shoes are meant for :)

Despite the crazy busy and stress of the actual day, I’ve had a lovely birthday all told and I haven’t even made my parents take me for Indian food. Thank you so so much darlings; you make my life and my birthdays so much brighter. ♥ ♥ ♥

Hiatus announcement

Tomorrow I am beginning my CELTA course! It is all very exciting and not a little scary. By the end of February, I will (if all goes well) know how to teach adult learners English, and have a qualification to prove it.

I will also have helped teach quite a few people, many of whom are refugees. (It’s the way International House works: we people learning to teach get lots of teaching practice, and vulnerable people needing English in a hurry get lessons on the cheap.) Hopefully those lessons will go well and, you know, not wreck anyone’s learning.

*bites nails*

SO. Among other things, darlings, this is a HIATUS ANNOUNCEMENT. I’ll be posting my hp_kinkfest fic on the 5th, but aside from that, I basically won’t be around until March. No reading or reccing or chatting or posting, and probably very little writing. :S

I will try to poke my head in around my birthday, because I love you all and also if I get any birthday wishes etc I don’t want to seem at all ungrateful. But I am pre-emptively warning you, if you are the kind of nice person who does birthday wishes, that you may have to wait ten whole days between my birthday on the twenty-first and my crawling out of the CELTA swamp on the first before I reply. I AM ALREADY SORRY AND EMBARRASSED AT THE THOUGHT OF THIS, so hopefully the warning will be unnecessary. But there it is.

Along these lines: if you post anything, or anyone else posts anything, you think I’d be interested in, do please tell me in the comments! I’ll be very flattered that you thought of me.
