Tidings of Yule

Twitter just sent me an email with the subject line ‘because you have more to show’. I’m not just imagining the suggestive tone there, am I? Because I saw that and was like, clutching the tattered remains of my privacy like a Victorian maiden post-ravishing. What satisfaction canst thou have tonight, Twitter?? You’ve already seen everything I’m going to show!

ANYWAY.

Yuletide! What did you guys nominate? Do you think you're going to play?

I nominated Maledicte by Lane Robins. It's a very good book, and also lots of sex and canonical dub-con and there's swordfighting and love and vengeance. I actually had a hard time choosing which characters to nominate – I had to nominate Maledicte, of course, the fantastic central character. And Gilly, the country-boy who works for Maledicte's noble patron, because he is lovely in lots of ways and I want fic about him. Then I went with Janus I think – I kind of hate him but he's Maledicte's lover and therefore important, and I would read him if it was in the context of something sexy. Maledicte's obsessions are interesting, after all... and then, to my sorrow, I had to let go of Vornatti, this incredibly pervy old nobleman who teaches Maledicte what he needs to know for use of Maledicte's body. But I am happy with my fourth pick: Mirabile is this fantastic woman who's all vengeful and gorgeous and survivalist and power-hungry and generally fantastic, and also a mirror character for Maledicte.

HOW MUCH DO I LOVE MIRRORS.

(ps this has been a sekrit promo for Maledicte, so you will all read it and write me porn of it. The central character is a trans dude! There is love and vengeance and swordfighting! Maledicte is driven to the point of madness by the goddess whose power he claims! The fantasy set-up seems to be on the brink of an industrial revolution! Poisons!)

Anyway, otherwise I nominated Being Human UK and Annie, Nina, George and Mitchell. Because they are my favourites, and the ickle fandom seems fairly heavy on S4. Also Kristin Cashore's Seven Kingdoms books – I couldn't work out how to tell which characters had already been nominated, annoyingly, but I got Fire and Clara and Bo onto the list, so huzzah!

Don't know if I'll actually have time to play, due to Developments in RL. But fingers crossed!
