I mean, I'm a Brit and I've done a really good decent job not obsessing the last fortnight. Now things are going less well.

The UK is embroiled in utter hideousness and it's only going to get worse as of 1st January (when Brexit rules come into play) and argh

Yeah. At some point my answer to "how are you" started to be relative to the general background of "you know, everything". Like an individual day is quite good, not mentioning the slow grim draining grind that's always there every day :(

If I started ARGHing, I may never stop. I feel we haven't even seen the tip of the UK awfulness iceberg yet. Good thing there's nothing else happening right now on the world stage that's potentially incredibly awful either, right? Right?

The UK and US have both had a series of electoral tests in recent years -- tests of decency, of common sense, of basic sanity -- and have largely failed them. The US might barely pass the latest test to the extent of Biden eking out a victory, but it's bad that it's even close.

Yeah, quite :( I'm so fucking relieved Biden's won, but a) still close enough to be very distressing and b) we're still failing our tests in the UK. No deal Brexit is six weeks away!

ARGH is about right. The US has failed the decency test and the sanity one and anything of empathy or understanding.

I know. Like it hasn't turned out close, really - except STILL WAY TOO CLOSE given... everything. But I still don't know how we ended up with a PM who was fired for lying in a major newspaper and then repeatedly accused of lying about the EU in his NEXT MAJOR NEWSPAPER ROLE WTF to lead us out of the EU. Even for a nation who voted for Brexit, this is dumb.
