open_on_sunday’s current prompt, novice.
Spike fell back against the wall, away from the stake.
He’d gone looking for Watchers once they got back to London. Angelus had spoken scornfully of men who never fought themselves.
Angelus had been wrong.
The man rushed forward; Spike spun, slammed him against brick, and bit down.
He’d won. Just.
Angelus’ disgusted voice hit him; he turned, and saw his sire, demon-faced and displeased.
“Still a novice at subduing easy prey, boy? You’re a disgrace to the bloodline!”
Spike scowled and said nothing. When the practice paid off – when Spike killed a Slayer – Angelus would be proud of him.

And sweet drabble! Love the mix of Spike's first steps and the vampire he'd become. Nobody can say that when the boy had something in mind he didn't go after it wholeheartedly. ;)

LOL, too true!

Oh, absolutely. The cycle's painfully obvious.
Thanks for the comment!

Perfectly in keeping with what we know about Spike's desire to impress Angelus and, on a certain level, his resentment of having to.
Oh, definitely. Angelus (and Angel) just refused to be impressed whatever he did.

Definitely. I'm always curious about what happened after the Boxer Rebellion - Spike had killed a slayer and Angel had been driven away, so at that point he should have felt he'd proven himself. Knowing Spike, though, he didn't.
Thanks for the thoughtful comment!

I think he was just a wee bit jealous, and Spike always felt he had something to prove.
Oh, absolutely. The fact that Spike killed a slayer on the same night Angel was cast out by Darla always struck me as an interesting choice by the writers.

Well done!

Oh, absolutely. I wish we could have seen Angel actually express pride - because I'd love to see Spike's reaction as much as because it would be happy-making.
