Rules of the Game:
A) People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blogs & replace any question that they dislike with a new question formulated by themselves.
B) Tag 8 people to do this quiz & those who are tagged cannot refuse. These people must state who they were tagged by & cannot tag the person whom they were tagged by. Continue this game by sending it to other people. You can refuse if you like, I'm not going to come after you!
1. How has LJ changed your life?
Oh my God, I don’t even know where to begin. For one thing, LJ is how I discovered fandom – I never did that ‘thirteen years old and loving the Pit of Voles’ stage. LJ is how I came into contact with published writers; it’s given me links to writers’ blogs and meta, I’ve found ideas that never would’ve occurred to me. Of course, it’s also become a hobby in itself, quite aside from letting me post!
You want to know what else? LJ is probably what got me my university place.
Let me explain. No, there is too much. Let me sum up!
I applied to East Anglia to do their English and Creative Writing course. They asked for my sample, but eventually said no (*sadface*) – however, they also said I could have a place doing English if I wanted it. Since their focus is on ‘creativity and criticism’, I’m certain they did this fairly unusual thing because of a piece called ‘Here Be Monsters’, about how the portrayal of monsters in fiction has changed.
Now analysis is my strength at school, but I’d never have thought to write something like that without what LJ has exposed me to. Analysis focussing on exactly what you’re interested in, analysis without a question to answer, analysis discussing Jane Eyre and Harry Potter and Wicked all in one piece: I’d have found it at uni, but as it is I learnt to do it early, watching people like sistermagpie. Hell, I even thought of Here Be Monsters as ‘meta’ while I was writing it!
Now we just have to see if I get my AAB at A Level, and can take the place. *wibble*
Best of all, LiveJournal’s introduced me to people. Some very wonderful people, some very funny people, some very clever people, some very awesome writers. And that’s just you lot!
What do you do before bedtime?
Read fic or books. I usually post fic then too, so I can have nice comments to wake up to! Lately I’ve been on MSN right before I go to bed as well.
If I’ve been out, usually the last thing before I stumble into bed is drinking.
3. What will your dream wedding be like?
On a beach, so we can have outdoor sex right after.
4. What is the city of your dreams and why?
Rome is a long-time favourite, and I want to learn Italian and maybe live there for a year or two. But London has a special place in my heart. It’s the atmosphere, and the energy, and the awesome things and the sense that it’s weird but it’s home.
5. Are you an introvert or extrovert?
Extrovert. To the point of being annoying; I’m actually trying to talk less, and it’s not going well! On the other hand, I know lots of people.
6. Which is more blessed, loving someone or being loved by someone?
Blessed? Um. I suppose I’m meant to say ‘loving someone’, but I’ve got to go with being loved.
7. Do you trust easily?
No. I’m the type that tells-all, except of course it’s not all – it’s only the things I’m not bothered about, and people assume it’s all there is. Actually I find it easier to talk about this stuff online but it’s still hard; I vacillated over whether to post about some family issues recently. Glad I did, by the way – it’s lovely to get support from the flisters I know better.
8. If the person you secretly like is already attached, what would you do?
Move on. *shrug* But then obsessive crushes have never been my thing, it wouldn’t even be hard. And ‘secretly like’? I’m a massive flirt, there is no one I ‘secretly’ like!
9. Is there anything that has made you unhappy these days?
Yes – the many and varied issues to do with my family. Friends, both in RL and online, have never made me unhappy yet.
10. What is your best quality?
Generosity, probably; I’m not the most ‘nurturing’ friend in the world, I don’t think, but I’ll put a lot of time into helping out friends and I’ll shell out a lot for good causes. Not that this is all about generosity: I’ve spent about £70 in Oxfam bookshops in the last three months, pretty much my whole disposable income – and that was more about the ‘OMG PRETTY BOOKS!’ and being able to justify it as ‘summer reading’ than the charity! Thank God for birthday money – my friends would be displeased if I stopped bringing my fair share of cheap vodka to parties. I’d like to have new clothes for my nights out, too, but Iris Murdoch novels > sparkly tops.
Curiosity’s the other good quality, I guess. I was one of the most annoying children in the world: mouthy, talkative and asking a lot of questions. Not much has changed.
11. (Replaced by me) What's your worst quality?
My worst fault is my temper.
12. How do you see yourself?
Someone who lives inside her head. The inner life – which seems to include participating in fandom in some obscure way – has always been more important.
13. Who are currently the most important people to you?
My sisters. My close friends in real life – I have a lot of acquaintances, but there around six of them who’re ‘the most important’. A few flisters in particular. In a lot of ways the flist in general. The fun you provide, your talent, and the sense that you’re ‘out there’ – I’d miss you all so much if you were gone!
14. What kind of person do you think the person who tagged you is?
faithwood? She’s hilarious, and takes a very good line on porn. (To whit: ‘there should always be more! And it should include bondage!’)
15. Would you rather be single & rich or married but poor?
Single and rich. I feel no massive need to get married, and with the student troubles coming up I definitely need money! The answer might well be different in ten years, though.
I’m going to go and have a liberal’s sulk about the lack of options beyond ‘single’ and ‘married’ now. Some of us don’t want to get married! In some countries, some of us can’t!
16. How many children do you want to have, if any?
None. I want to borrow them, then hand them back to my friends and sisters!
17. What's better, to give or to receive?
To receive – I’m a bottom all the way!
18. If you fall in love with two people simultaneously, who would you pick?
The hotter one. I’m shallow that way.
On the other hand, I’m also nerdy enough to have noticed that the grammar in that question is wrong.
19: Would you have 100% safe sex with a stranger for $10,000,000?
Yes.
20: (Replaced by me) Tell me about your current book. If there isn't one, tell me about the last/current fic.
The End of Mr Y by Scarlett Thomas.
lavillanueva, this would be the one with the bondage, so the girl ends up with burn marks after sex - except it's not very positive and we don't get to SEE the sex! It's very, very clever and I love it. However, I also wonder who the target audience is. Interest in literature, time travel, quantum physics, language and how the universe began? Yep, got all those. But I thought I was the only one!
Until I discovered the internet, anyway. *cuddles internet*
