Challenge #6

In your own space, make a list — anything between one and ten things is a sweet spot, but don't feel constrained by that! - of things that you wish existed in fandom or elsewhere, or that you'd like someone to make for you. Are you dying for podfic of your writing? Do you need icons for a character that doesn't get much fanart? Is there a story you want to read? Are you looking for new canons to get into? Would you like a collaborator for a project?

Maybe you want more people to talk about a certain fandom with, or you'd love to trade ficlets with somebody over email. Maybe you're new to a fandom and would like some recs to start reading, or communities to join. This is the time to ask!

Well, I don’t care about deadlines. Snowflake sadly can’t give me my biggest wish but it makes me feel better. (I’ve been wearing black this weekend. I’m honestly in mourning. Bye, EU.)

1. Fanart for any of my fics. A delight, the dream.

2. People to talk to about FFXV on Dreamwidth, haha. Though really I need to make more posts about it, and other things I wanna talk about more - Cursed Child opinions! fantasy novels! theatre! - for that to happen.

3. Somnus and Aera icons. Aranea, Crowe, and Luna art. (Bonus points for femmeslash.)

4. Somnus/Ardyn content. WHERE IS IT YOU COWARDS. This drives me nuts because THEY ARE BROTHERS and we know how fandom do!!! And one of them is a villain who’s easily-woobified within this pairing! The other one’s tragic too, and all blank-faced so you can make him show his emotions unwillingly! Like, there’s SO MUCH fannish catnip here - I didn’t necessarily expect the fic to be good but I expected it to be there! This wouldn’t be a central pairing for me necessarily, more one I read occasionally, but there is literally fucking nothing on AO3. It must be somewhere secretly shared like we’re back in the era of listservs or something. Bloody antis ruining everything.

(Yes, I am going to write at least one myself and put it unlocked on AO3 and I do not care at all.)

5. People being nice to themselves.

Gonna see if I can contribute anything, belatedly, at the post.

Challenge #3

Pimp Your Favorite Communities, Fests or Challenges!

These are all great and mostly have specific cool things happening in February.

[community profile] ladybusiness. It’s on Dreamwidth, it wins awards, it’s fabulous. Entertaining and insightful reviews and recs - mostly of books, but fanworks etc also appear - r here.

[community profile] daily_deviant. The home of a lot of fantastic, creative, unexpected kinky Potter fanworks. They’ve got a birthday party event coming up in February that’s guaranteed to be fun.

[community profile] halfamoon. The first half of February is devoted to LADIES :D This is a comm that hosts fic, meta, friending memes, icons, loads of stuff in the first half of February every year, all devoted to our favourite fictional/fandom women.

Challenge #4

In your own space, set some goals for the coming year. They can be fannish or not, public or private.

See here.

Challenge #5

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've briefly interacted with and friend/follow them.

Done! I commented on freosan’s fic, which is wonderful and makes me wanna be friends.

Challenge #1

In your own space, introduce yourself!

I’VE STILL GOT TIME. And since I’ve got a bunch of new friends and have been pretty quiet on Dreamwidth for quite a while, an intro post seems like a great idea.

The basics under the cut )

My favourite getting-to-know-you/catch-up meme seems appropriate here: ask me a question, any question, fandom or RL. And I'll answer and ask a related question, and it goes back and forth until one of us forgets or gets bored, haha.

Day 11

Share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

This is gonna sound like it’s cheating but I’ve been meaning to post about it for a while, so…

Obviously being in fandom has changed my life in innumerable ways - I mean, many of my close or best friends are people I met through fandom. But being in fandom, and especially reading fanfic and meta, has influenced my ethics. A lot.

Which sounds terrifying, haha, and the start of some kind of clickbait article about fandom ruining young people - which will definitely become more of a thing as fandom gets ever more mainstream.

I was sixteen when I entered fandom and I’m about to turn twenty-eight, so those are some influential years. Now I don’t exactly mean that fandom has influenced what I think is right and wrong - it probably has, but not in any way I could easily unpick, and I suspect that it’s a feedback loop to the extent that it’s true. Like, what I already thought was right and wrong was perhaps settled and entrenched by being in fandom - after all, fandom has lots of disagreements within itself, we’re a bunch of people who often strongly disagree more than a monolith, even when we’re just talking about the smaller communities I’ve been part of within wider fandom. I was already interested in fighting inequality, I already had ideas about responsibility and community-building and kindness in the face of vulnerability, and fandom just gave me new ways to express them and new examples of them.

But there has been a change: the way fandom looks at characters influences the way I look at people )

Day 10

In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (Or a few!) Tell us what makes it work for you, and why it appeals to you so much. Talk about what you like to see in fanworks featuring that theme most. Feel free to include recs and examples!

I thought I’d go back to this, cos I finally came up with a good answer, even if it’s really specific to my current main fandom.

MT!Prompto.

It’s so great. Prompto is so cheerful and extroverted and emotional and generally the exact opposite of a robot, or even a trained-to-be-a-weapon type character in canon. But there’s this AU just begging to be used, because he was taken out of Gralea as a baby - an accident? A random aside from a Lucian spy?

All the fic I’ve read using MT!Prompto has been fucking amazing. Plus it really lends itself to other tropes I love. Hurt/comfort most obviously, of course - the trope I look for first in every new fandom. Learning to be loved -- Prompto’s shock at people being nice to him is heartbreaking in all these fics, but omg my id. Touch starvation -- my second-favourite scene in Running Behind is when Prompto gets his hair cut by Ignis, and leans into the touch all overcome, and Ignis is startled but recognises the need in it, and is so kind. There’s also Noct being adorable and using the ‘strange blue substance’ of his hair gel to make Prompto a rock star. In Engine Heart touch-starved Prompto has Gladio doing his eyeliner after Iggy does is hair <3

Related to that - defamiliarisation probably isn’t quite the word I want here, but it’s also not outsider POV, quite… Basically MT!Prompto’s perspective on the bros and everybody else, when he doesn’t know them as he does in canon and comes from a completely alien culture, but of course he likes them or is in the process of learning to… it’s just a delight.

Found family <333 I wouldn’t have expected to fall for Daddy!Cor like this at ALL, but I completely have - it’s gorgeous, and especially for the ways he tends to flail around and not be that good at it, but try very hard. And obviously there’s something lovely in the bros finding each other and becoming a unit no matter how their world has changed. Noct recognising vulnerability and being kind in the face of it - I mean I love that from all characters, it speaks to me on such a deep level, but from Noct, who can be thoughtless and oblivious but wants to save people, who has such power and privilege, I love it sooooo much when he realises how other people can be hurt in ways he hasn’t been and tries hard because of it. It’s the best of him <3

Daddy!Cor is a delight, but there are also special moments that get repeated in different ways, as MT!Prompto learns to be more like the Prompto we know in canon, as he’s allowed to be more himself. Hair, clothes… MT!Prompto discovering photography is a really lovely process that makes me super emotional in all these fics.

Which brings me to - recs time! )

Day 9

Post at least three recs for fanworks that you have created.

Resting With The Enemy. Ron/Draco, ~11k words, Mature. Summary: (Pre-)eighth-year hurt/comfort. Ron’s used to obsessive people, but this is something else.

This is probably my favourite of my own fics? Lots of nice turns of phrase, and it’s the only one of mine I actually reread from time to time - basically because I love reading hurt/comfort but I don’t write it much, and I find it comforting.

This is my favourite Ron I’ve ever written - Resting With The Enemy has a lot in common with Unforgivable, another Ron/Draco fic of mine about people coming back to fix up Hogwarts and Draco barely coping, and Ron reacting. But this Ron is at the other end of the spectrum in terms of coping with his own issues and recognising Draco’s vulnerability. It has the line Malfoy didn’t look innocent. But he looked vulnerable, and that was enough. And like. That’s so much of my ethics and my id right there, honestly.

Skanc Alley. Ron/Draco, ~2700 words, Explicit. Summary: Ron wants to roleplay him having rentboy!Draco. Draco doesn’t get it.

Short and funny - I seem to do best at witty banter with this pairing! It’s also an example of when a kink - paying for sex, in this case - fits a pairing perfectly and illuminates their dynamic. Because Ron and Draco together would have some Stuff around class, honestly this is probably an unrealistically fun and comfortable conversation/channelling of all that. But whatever they’re super in love. Plus I like that they talk about the fantasy and get off without actually doing it, cos I think that’s realistic.

Student Digs. Harry/Draco, ~4100 words, Explicit; spanking, very light dom/sub. Summary: Harry’s living in student accommodation. Just the phrase makes Draco shudder.

Fluffy kink: more or less my raison d’etre in fandom. I think this is probably the funniest thing I’ve written. It’s first-person which is probably off-putting to people, but it’s got a strong voice, which isn’t something I’ve done a lot so it’s nice to feel like I’ve pulled it off. I like the sense of Harry and Draco in a strong relationship with their past unforgotten, and Draco being a snobby shit. Plus, porn.

Day 8

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favorite interview, a book, a scene from a movie, etc) and explain why you love it so much. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Late but not out!

I rewatched Kingsglaive yesterday, both for the purposes of Ardyn voice and because it’s great. And I’ve written SO MUCH about it hahaha which I’ll have to post later! Because this asked for something like a SCENE from a movie, which is clearly the right idea because I’ve written so many words about Kingsglaive and it’s not even close to done.

So let’s talk about the party scene from Kingsglaive )

Day 6

Leave feedback for a fanwork. Or multiple fanworks. It can be as simple as I liked this to a detailed list of all the things you loved about the fanwork. The key is to leave some sort of feedback.

If you've already left feedback in the course of a previous challenge, it totally counts. But you're free to leave more feedback.

Afterwards, leave a comment in this post with the equivalent of "I did it!" If you feel so inclined, leave a link to the fanwork you left feedback for so others can check it out.

Day 7:

Day 4

In your own space, create a fannish wishlist. No limits on size or type of fanwork; just tell us what you’d like to see. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so. And if you grant a wish, do the same thing!

1. More tropey femmeslash. I waaaaaaant. I think fandom would be better if there was more tropey femmeslash in general, but I personally would like turned-into-a-dog!Kara/turned-into-a-cat!Cat, bodyguard!Aranea/Luna, and sharing-a-bed Luna/Cindy.

2. More comforty hurt/comfort in FFXV. I mean, I love the hurt/comfort we have and I don’t want it to change, but we could add more! And some of it could be more healing! My god there is SO MUCH HURT in the ratio in this fandom!!! Is it because to be in this fandom you have to accept/enjoy horrible things happening to your darling faves??? Did Square Enix give us all Stockholm Syndrome???

3. Gladio and Ignis being dorks. It’s canon, people. I do see a lot of it, to be fair… but I want MOAR. Like, them trying to be the mum and dad friends and failing massively plz <333

Day 5

Recommend a fannish or creative resource. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I have three I want to mention, in fact.

How to save FFnet reviews quickly by [profile] khateh. I must admit I’ve yet to get round to this - I saved it under ‘tutorials’ and never dug it out again - but it’s a helpful thing to know about for sho.

2. Writingwithcolor.tumblr.com - this is a fantastic resource. Check through the FAQs and tags before sending a new question!

3. How to filter OUT tags on an AO3 search, manually or automatically.

I just left some prompts over at [community profile] hpkinkfest :D :D :D

I might leave more, actually - a kinkfest without me prompting spanking would just feel wrong - but forced orgasm and nipple torture are up there.

Day 3

In your own space, post recs for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

I thought I’d rec three things from three different great winter fests.

Something To Talk About by [archiveofourown.org profile] karoakegal. Lee Mack/Noel Fielding & various British comics and comic-adjacent people; 8000 words; Teen. Summary: The announcement nobody was expecting; the friendship no one understands.

RPF’s not generally my thing, but I love how familiar this all feels (it’s about my culture, it’s for meeee) and the different voices (especially Victoria Coren’s and Dara O’Briain’s) and how it gets at both the closeness and the incestuous gossipyness of the London comedy scene.

Underwear for Christmas by Anonymous. M/M; Teen. Summary: Even this underwear seems to be unwanted.

Cake art! Art made of cake! And it’s very beautifully done and hilarious too! I’m a big fan of the dirty joke of boxers saying dissendium, too - according to the Potter wiki, “Dissendium was the incantation of a charm that revealed hidden passageways.”

Don’t Be Nervous by Anonymous. Harry/Draco; G. Summary: Sometimes it just takes a hug and some calming words from your loved one.

This is incredibly sweet. I love the colour palette and the clothes and especially the use of lighting, and the “subtle romance” [profile] who_la_whoop requested, and the beautiful ball behind them being blurred and backgroundish: it's not important, the connection between them is.

Day 15

In your own space, write a love letter to Fandom in general, to a particular fandom, to a trope, a relationship, a character, or to your flist/circle/followers. Share you love and squee as loud as you want to. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Dear fandom,

You’ve brought me more than I could ever really enumerate here. I mean, it was because I went to Azkatraz, a Potter con in 2009, that I met many of the people who are now close friends in RL. A lot of those people no longer share a fandom with me, but it doesn’t matter.

When I was twenty-one, I slapped my sister in the face and my mum kicked me out )

Day 12

In your own space, post a rec for fannish spaces and resources - comms, challenges, twitters, tumblrs, etc. Tell us about where you hang out. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

This one’s tough for me because I basically hang out on my flist, or more occasionally my Tumblr dash; even when I hang out elsewhere it’s often like, a meta person’s LJ so I can discuss stuff in the comments.

Fannish resources:

[livejournal.com profile] crack_broom: years’ worth of high-quality, tagged Harry Potter recs.

[livejournal.com profile] potterfests: given the fest-centric nature of Potter fandom, especially on LJ/DW, this is absolutely necessary and a fantastic resource.

[community profile] halfamoon: an annual fourteen-day challenge celebrating female characters. It starts TOMORROW and runs until Valentine’s Day! You can create fic or art or icons or vids, or do recs or meta or anything. It’s great.

General resources:

[tumblr.com profile] writingwithcolor: several mods from different backgrounds answer questions about writing BME/POC characters. I found it very helpful when struggling with whether an idea for some original fiction was appropriative - Googling previously having led me to various ideas and articles that were inappropriate or unhelpful for various reasons.

[tumblr.com profile] bisexualbooks: my reading fail last year means I’ve still read staggeringly few bisexual characters in my bibliophile life. (Two, both of them ‘hedonistic’.) But this tumblr is a fantastic resource nonetheless.
lokifan: black Converse against a black background (Default)
FYI, my January DD fic - Dirty Uncle Charlie porn - is up here. Read the warnings and have fun :D

Day 11

In your own space, talk about a creator. Show us why you think they are amazing. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

This seemed impossibly difficult; there are so many creators whose work I love. But I mentioned [livejournal.com profile] lizardspots to the relatively-new-to-fandom [livejournal.com profile] mywitch the other week, and [livejournal.com profile] mywitch didn’t know who she was. Which is totally fair but made me sad because Lizard’s art is FANTASTIC and I don’t want people to miss out on it - particularly given that [livejournal.com profile] mywitch is a massive Snape fan and Lizard did so much great Snape art.

[livejournal.com profile] lizardspots isn’t really in fandom any more though she’s still a friend of mine and sporadically updates her LJ to let people know how her life is going. She has a massive masterlist with lots of different characters, including cute gen and pervy porn. Her work is mostly Potter but there’s a decent chunk of other fandoms too. She’s got a sly wit, a lot of atmosphere, gorgeously detailed backgrounds, and did I mention the porn?

cut for LOADS of recs - mostly HP, a bit of Merlin and White Collar )
lokifan: black Converse against a black background (Default)

Day 13

In your own space, write about a moment in fandom that meant a lot to you. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

A moment is very hard to choose! The Victory Ball at Diacon was full of gorgeous, shining moments: looking round at all these people having a blast, eating and dancing and laughing with my friends and knowing that we did it.

The better choice, though, might be Easter 2010. That’s when my grandmother died unexpectedly - well, as unexpectedly as any death that happens to someone in her late eighties. It was the Easter holidays and my flatmates had all gone home already. I hadn’t wanted to go home so quickly (issues with the family) but then she died. I was taking the train in a few days anyway and the train’s expensive at the last minute; it didn’t occur to me to ask for a lift.

So I spent a few days on my own, and what I mostly did was lie on the floor of my room with my laptop and read every fic from [livejournal.com profile] hp_getlucky as it was posted. The theme of “luck” meant that the fic was mostly happy - even the angstier stuff, like one where Draco gets addicted to Felix Felicis, would have a happy ending. It was exactly what I needed at the time, regularly posted & predictably happy fic. I don’t think I commented on any of it. It all seemed too fraught, and I couldn’t think of what to say. (I should try going back to it now, actually.) But despite the bit of guilt there, that makes it a more meaningful memory for me in a way. Usually I try to comment and participate and be part of the ecosystem that encourages fans to create and spend time here, and I think that’s important. But I didn’t do that this time and fandom was still there to give me exactly what I needed at the time I needed it - not in a personal way because people know me, but just because I was a reader who found it at the right moment. It felt like a gift.
lokifan: black Converse against a black background (Default)

Day 7

In your own space, create a fanwork. Make a drabble, a ficlet, a podfic, or an icon, art or meta or a rec list. Arts and crafts. Draft a critical essay about a particular media. Put together a picspam or a fanmix. Write a review of a Broadway show, a movie, a concert, a poetry reading, a museum trip, a you-should-be-listening-to-this-band essay. Compose some limericks, haikus, free-form poetry, 5-word stories. Document a particular bit of real person canon. Take some pictures. Draw a stick-figure comic. Create something. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Day 10

In your own space, share your love for a trope, cliché, kink, motif, or theme. (More than one is okay, too.) Tell us about it, tell us why you love it, give us some examples and recs. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Thinking about this, I actually found the underlying element that ties together a lot of my kinks, both sexual (clothed/naked, humiliation) and narrative (hurt/comfort, forced confessions). That is forced vulnerability. Sometimes in my favourite fics that vulnerability is respected, and other characters are kind in the face of it. Sometimes they’re very much not, which is also fabulous :D

I feel like it’s totally obvious why I love it - it’s deep enough in my id that it’s hard to explain, and of course you share it you just nodded like “yes, of course.” Enemy ships often involve a moment where the enemies recognise that the other person is really a person in the same way they are, and not unrelatedly, vulnerable to hurt - and my love for enemy ships and forced vulnerability is probably pretty chicken-and-egg. (Buffy/Faith, my ultimate OTP, is sooooo good for this. I also have a theory that it’s a significant part of why Harry/Draco shippers love the Sectrumsempra scene so much, and the idea that Harry left scars.) And on the kinkier side, part of why I love Draco getting beaten down so much is his privileged background getting turned all around. The fluffier kinkfic I write does this backwards: it tends to linger on doms being careful of their subs’ sore spots.

It plays into my darker kinks to have vulnerability exploited, and my softer side to have people be kind in the face of it. And I really do believe that respecting vulnerability, whether or not the vulnerable people are good people, is a fundamental requirement of morality and civilisation. It’s a fundamental tenet of my lefty liberalism, now that I think about it. I have strong feelings about civil liberties, about prison reform, and about the end of the death penalty worldwide. For me all those things are deeply connected to the idea that just because the government has physical & legal & psychological power over you doesn’t mean they should use it - in fact, very much the opposite.

Let’s get to the recs before I get any more pompous :D )

Day 14
Go forth and commit an act of kindness. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it, tell us about it if you’re comfortable doing so.

I thought I’d do one of the missing Snowflake Challenges, since the mods assure us there’s no hard deadline. And I’m going to count something I did today. I went to the anti-Trump Women’s March here in London. It was great: a really positive atmosphere, despite the angst of the thing and the fact that 15 000 to 25 000 people were expected to show up and it was actually 100 000.

On a personal note, I’m glad I did it because I immediately felt so much better than yesterday. Doing something helped a lot, as did the community aspect. Both my sisters and my mum were there, and I marched with the female cousin of mine who lives in London and two American friends of hers. YAY SISTERHOOD.

A Japanese tourist asked me what was happening. I said it was an anti-Trump women’s march, and he expressed confusion because “this is the UK” - and that’s the reason I’m counting this as an act of kindness, because I was able to explain it politely and also, thanks to my job, avoid using the English most native speakers don’t realise is difficult (i.e. phrasal verbs). It was helpful for me too, because I’m a measurable goals sort of person and this is the first demonstration I’ve been on that didn’t really have one? Not a shared one, anyway. Not least because while I know some disagree, I do not think Pence would be an improvement.

So I told him that it was in solidarity with American women, as well as brown & black & immigrant Americans. And that it was to express our public grief and anger. To push forward a little on myriad feminist & lefty causes closer to home - I saw Repeal The Eighth signs (re: the appalling lack of abortion rights for Irish & Northern Irish women) and tampon tax signs as well as anti-Brexit ones. To inflict what international pressure we can on Trump & Republicans, particularly given the British/American “Special Relationship” and Trump’s being a bit of an Anglophile. And that because Britain is significantly more left-wing than the US, the US has elected several presidents who kind of horrified Britons, most famously George W Bush. But this is on a new scale, and this is not normal. That was the most important reason, I realised as I was saying it. To show that This Is Not Normal.

the signs were epic - more details here, photos on Tumblr )

(Day 7 is coming!)

Day 8

In your own space, make a list of at least 3 things that you like about yourself. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

1. My writing is good. Not all the time, but when I reread there are moments that are funny and unexpected or have a nice metaphor.

2. I give good presents. I put thought into it and generally manage to find something very specific to make that person happy.

3. I’m easy to talk to. (Someone said this on my love meme thread and it made me really happy.) I can even be charming.

DAY 9:

Send feedback to two fannish people — they can be anyone you want: a writer who’s made you happy, a moderator of your favorite exchange (not us!), a fanartist you avidly follow… There are so many possibilities. Just let someone know you appreciate their work.

Done! I sent it to a couple of people on AO3, since I find myself leaving slightly fewer comments there.

I’m going to count meeting [livejournal.com profile] mywitch IRL this week :)

Day 5

In your own space, post recs for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

Ron/Draco, Harry/Draco, and multifandom recs under the cut )

Day 06

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wish-list if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.

Art of one of my fics. This has only happened once, for Mrs Malfoy’s Finishing School For Young Ladies (as a private gift, I don’t think she posted it publically or I’d link) and it was EVERYTHING I COULD HAVE WANTED AND MORE.

2. Tropey femmeslash. This has definitely got better but still, I feel like femmeslash has this fabulous pile of original, lyrical writing - but that reputation, particularly within HP, intimidates fans. And sadly there isn’t much people having fun and letting their id out to play, throwing their copper/thief Diana/Alex handcuffs porn and Hermione/Pansy slavefic and Natasha/Pepper soulmates AU at the wall to see what sticks. DO THAT. If you wanted to write deaged or animal transformations or fuck or die for Cat/Kara in particular, I would not be opposed. *coughcough*

3. People feeling comfortable disagreeing with me on meta posts, and being okay with me doing the same. Potter fandom is still in, basically, a trauma backlash: we were the big crazy wanky fandom, and then everyone got really focussed on being polite and avoiding wank to an EXTREME extent. And I feel like the Tumblr tussles, with fans who’re a lot more wanky because of the effects of Tumblr as a platform and not coming up through that history, have only made LJ Potter fandom more suspicious of disagreement. It is very Potter-focussed - my flisters who came up through Buffy or Doctor Who meta are much more able to violently yet politely disagree and debate in each other’s comments and stay friends. And it’s great.

4. Concrit :) For me anyway. And more comments for everybody!

I know! I thought I wasn’t going to do it and then I was just like I WANNA I LOVE A BANDWAGON.

Day 1

In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. I feel like these three together represent a lot of my fannish interests & obsessions.

Resting With The Enemy - hurt/comfort, forgiving oneself and others, recovering from the war

Utter Cockslut (A Worthy Cause) - limit-pushing kink within a loving established relationship, multishipping, D/s and assorted kinks

Dashing Heroics - snarky banter, Auror fic, getting each other on a deep level even if you’re really different

Day 2

In your own space, share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Something that impacted on your consciousness in a way that left its mark on your soul. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

The works of Diana Wynne Jones. She was a British author of children’s fantasy novels and a star beyond stars; she’s a huge and acknowledged influence on some of today’s best-loved novelists, like Neil Gaiman and Frances Hardringe. She was also incredibly original; her novels varied enormously in plot and character and world.

this ended up being 600 words )
