Birthday by sabethea. Ron/Draco; ~1200 words; Mature. Summary: Ron has committed the cardinal sin of forgetting his boyfriend's birthday.

This was for meeeeeeeeeeeeeeee but I think a lot of people would love it :D Sab’s Ron voice is perfect, and the combination of an incredible, thoughtful gift and getting June and July mixed up feels very Ron indeed. The way their families and family expectations are so integral to this is so great, too; everyone is very IC, including in the difficulties, and the fact that Ron and Draco are both so defined/loved/constricted by their families is one of the reasons I ship them. There’s so much in such a small fic! And it’s so sweet, with Draco eviscerating Ron for almost breaking the misshapen Victoire-made pot and Ron giving him A STAR TO NAME FOR HIS BIRTHDAY OMG. <3

All I Mask Of You by red_rahl. Harry/Draco; R. Summary: In the midst of a growing magical conflict, how can Harry restore something precious before it becomes lost in the turmoil of war?

So possibly everyone’s seen this but I strongly feel it deserves more comments so whatever. IT MAKES ME SO HAPPY. Harry saves Draco from an evil mask with the power of his naked body and snuggles!!! red_rahl’s art is always so beautiful and I love her stories and character designs SO MUCH. Her Scarlet Pimpernel!Harry is charming and adorable as all her other Harrys. GETTING NAKED TO FIGHT EVIL. ♥ ♥ ♥ And omg so much cute blushing! I really loved all the different perspectives, especially the first and last panels, and the panel of Draco taking off the mask is amazing - so much emotion in his face, and for us finally getting to see his face full-on! And all the endearments, and poor Severus having to give subtextually sexy advice on how Harry can save Draco, and HARRY'S ARSE DIMPLES YESSSSSSSSS.

The Price by thingswithwings. Multifandom vid; sexual violence & sexualised violence, two suicide scenes, a lot of dead bodies. Summary: Mr Billowy Coat King of Pain.

This video is raging and sad and horribly funny, and still the absolute last word on man pain. How fucked up it is, the sheer weight of numbers in women who are tortured and killed and raped for the benefit of the male characters, the unmistakeable pattern of their “sexy” and sexualised suffering. And also how incredibly cliched and boring it is to fridge female characters - the defence of these moments is almost always that it was new and dramatic and risk-taking, and here is proof that it is none of those things.

Art of one of my fics. This has only happened once, for Mrs Malfoy’s Finishing School For Young Ladies (as a private gift, I don’t think she posted it publically or I’d link) and it was EVERYTHING I COULD HAVE WANTED AND MORE.

2. Tropey femmeslash. This has definitely got better but still, I feel like femmeslash has this fabulous pile of original, lyrical writing - but that reputation, particularly within HP, intimidates fans. And sadly there isn’t much people having fun and letting their id out to play, throwing their copper/thief Diana/Alex handcuffs porn and Hermione/Pansy slavefic and Natasha/Pepper soulmates AU at the wall to see what sticks. DO THAT. If you wanted to write deaged or animal transformations or fuck or die for Cat/Kara in particular, I would not be opposed. *coughcough*

3. People feeling comfortable disagreeing with me on meta posts, and being okay with me doing the same. Potter fandom is still in, basically, a trauma backlash: we were the big crazy wanky fandom, and then everyone got really focussed on being polite and avoiding wank to an EXTREME extent. And I feel like the Tumblr tussles, with fans who’re a lot more wanky because of the effects of Tumblr as a platform and not coming up through that history, have only made LJ Potter fandom more suspicious of disagreement. It is very Potter-focussed - my flisters who came up through Buffy or Doctor Who meta are much more able to violently yet politely disagree and debate in each other’s comments and stay friends. And it’s great.
