This one’s tough for me because I basically hang out on my flist, or more occasionally my Tumblr dash; even when I hang out elsewhere it’s often like, a meta person’s LJ so I can discuss stuff in the comments.

Fannish resources:

crack_broom: years’ worth of high-quality, tagged Harry Potter recs.

potterfests: given the fest-centric nature of Potter fandom, especially on LJ/DW, this is absolutely necessary and a fantastic resource.

halfamoon: an annual fourteen-day challenge celebrating female characters. It starts TOMORROW and runs until Valentine’s Day! You can create fic or art or icons or vids, or do recs or meta or anything. It’s great.

General resources:

writingwithcolor: several mods from different backgrounds answer questions about writing BME/POC characters. I found it very helpful when struggling with whether an idea for some original fiction was appropriative - Googling previously having led me to various ideas and articles that were inappropriate or unhelpful for various reasons.

bisexualbooks: my reading fail last year means I’ve still read staggeringly few bisexual characters in my bibliophile life. (Two, both of them ‘hedonistic’.) But this tumblr is a fantastic resource nonetheless.

Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them. Afterwards, leave a comment in this post with the equivalent of "I did it!"

Art of one of my fics. This has only happened once, for Mrs Malfoy’s Finishing School For Young Ladies (as a private gift, I don’t think she posted it publically or I’d link) and it was EVERYTHING I COULD HAVE WANTED AND MORE.

2. Tropey femmeslash. This has definitely got better but still, I feel like femmeslash has this fabulous pile of original, lyrical writing - but that reputation, particularly within HP, intimidates fans. And sadly there isn’t much people having fun and letting their id out to play, throwing their copper/thief Diana/Alex handcuffs porn and Hermione/Pansy slavefic and Natasha/Pepper soulmates AU at the wall to see what sticks. DO THAT. If you wanted to write deaged or animal transformations or fuck or die for Cat/Kara in particular, I would not be opposed. *coughcough*

3. People feeling comfortable disagreeing with me on meta posts, and being okay with me doing the same. Potter fandom is still in, basically, a trauma backlash: we were the big crazy wanky fandom, and then everyone got really focussed on being polite and avoiding wank to an EXTREME extent. And I feel like the Tumblr tussles, with fans who’re a lot more wanky because of the effects of Tumblr as a platform and not coming up through that history, have only made LJ Potter fandom more suspicious of disagreement. It is very Potter-focussed - my flisters who came up through Buffy or Doctor Who meta are much more able to violently yet politely disagree and debate in each other’s comments and stay friends. And it’s great.

4. Concrit :) For me anyway. And more comments for everybody!

I’m going to bring back my weekly recs posts, guys - on Fridays instead of Saturdays because I am out at work from 6:15am to 9:15pm at the weekends. But they’re back, which means this post is full of stuff I’ve had saved for ages; the hiatus on reccing has not meant a hiatus on me seeing stuff and going SO COOL. :)

But first, very recent things: STUFF I GOT FOR MY BIRTHDAY (And this is not even counting the recs and hot pics and such.) I love my life :D

SHE WROTE ME TWO THINGS. *insufferably smug face* This is perfect flangst; Draco comes to the Weasleys for Christmas because Ron asks, but he misses his own family. And then we get a lovely little moment of them claiming each other for their family and my heart grows three sizes.
