I was confused at first by your headline because in BDSM spaces so much "status" is given to the dominants (especially heterosexual men, but let's not go there this time around) that I couldn't get it to make sense. But then I saw you were talking fiction and went "OH!" Because yeah, I think you may just have a point.
I'm not sure what to make of it, but I do think you are right in your parallel with cross-gen fic and rape-fantasy etc. It's the same kind of feeling of something that needs to be defused or made less creepy somehow. I agree that the sadistic villain is a very tired trope indeed. One to be subverted, I'm sure :-)
