Saturday rec post: the why not in the why

lokifanRecs time! Fic where Kingsley kills Draco, fic where Kingsley shags Draco, fic with no Kingsley in it at all! (Because it is fic about the Avengers.) You cannot say I don’t bring variety!
HP fic
Earthbound Spook bycest_what. Harry/Draco, R, ~57 600 words.
Draco Malfoy, post-HBP, is killed in his first Death Eater raid. This is sort of sad but not a huge issue - Harry, Ron and Hermione are all still at Hogwarts for their seventh year but feverishly trying to find Horcruxes - until Harry and Ron find Draco tangled in ivy in the grounds.
This is not our Draco. This is Draco from an alternate universe in which he is a Gryffindor. (There is an explanation for this, and it is simple and perfect and fills me with glee.) This Draco was best friends with Ron and Harry. He is not very happy with this new world.
This is fun, and I really enjoy the plot, which it has - rather a good one with a very chilling moment or two! But I am reccing because it is properly ensemble-ish. And I really love books that do that, and I love fanfic that does it even more. The Slytherins who lost a best friend, and have him back but differently, get actual attention. Narcissa and Ginny and Pansy all get proper scenes. Hermione rocks - she’s understandably shaken by the idea that she was replaced as Ron-and-Harry’s-best-friend in this other universe but she still does everything she can to help Draco. And also, Harry and Draco and their slow-building Thing. SO HAPPY YOU GUYS.

A Persuasive Performance byalisanne. Kingsley/Draco, NC-17, 2800 words; prostitution, spanking, voyeurism/exhibitionism, suggestion of dubcon (but not really).
Draco is a prostitute post-war. He performs with this other prostitute then gets called in by the voyeuristic customer for belting and sexytimes. And also there is an implied happy ending. Short and gorgeously hot - Kingsley, noting that Draco uses a pseudonym, decides his assigned name for the night is ‘Master’.
Thor fic
It Was You bymaulfan. Thor/Jane & Loki, <1000 words.
Jane gets hit by a car, Loki rescues her and pretends he didn’t. Awesome premise, and also I love Jane’s POV here - the moments where she’s dying, and she thinks she can’t, she’s got research and planning and Thor. And when she and Thor are getting married, and Loki shows up to be all “congrats bro, gotta go” only Frigga hugs him and Odin outs him as a sister-in-law-rescuer and Thor is all TACKLEHUG while Loki tells him not to be sentimental.
Yay Jane!POV and adorableness.

More Jane!POV on the bros. I love this idea: Thrymsday, as a celebration of that time Thor and Loki got the hammer back, is an Asgardian party where everyone dresses as the opposite gender and does stuff they can’t or won’t usually do. Loki *cheats flagrantly* by using magic to bodyswitch, Thor shaves his beard (and Jane is completely, adorably horrified), and Loki makes terrible pegging jokes.
Also Jane is so buried in her research that Thor undresses and redresses her without her paying attention. <3
It’s An Institute You Can’t Disparage byconeycat_fic. Thor/Loki, NC-17, ~6600 words; AU.
AU where Loki wasn’t taken, and Odin and Laufey agree on an arranged marriage between Laufey’s youngest and Thor to keep the truce. Loki has an unpleasant, neglectful father but his big brothers love him, and he is terrified to be sent to marry and live with the Aesir when he’s still only a child. Thor realises he’s just a kid, and immediately agrees to hold off until he’s big enough for sexytimes. Eventually these happen.
But the fic actually isn’t about the id-fulfillment of that premise, or not entirely. I love Loki’s big brothers and their concern, I love Loki’s characterisation and his impractical response to homesickness, I love Sif’s brief appearances of awesome (“She had decided that he needed training in combat, and Loki figured out for himself that, for Sif, instruction in deadly force was an expression of affection”) and the hilarious scene that really begins Loki’s life on Asgard.
It’s just... really happy-making and lovely. And yes at the end Loki goes into his first heat, and it is HOT.

Arms and the Man bycopperbadge. Steve/Tony, R, ~15 000 words; brief mentions of PTSD, not entirely consensual smooching.
This is ADORABLE. I love Steve’s voice in this, charming and earnest and trying very hard to adapt. I love Steve’s literally thinking out the metaphor of Captain America and Iron Man’s friendship (as the most enduring, best things about America brought together with its modernity) and his trying very earnestly to explain this to Tony as a reason they should get together. Plus Steve makes friends with JARVIS and there’s hot sex.
Some Things Shouldn’t Be A Chore by scifigrl47. Steve/Tony pre-slash, PG-13, ~22 100 words.
More ensemble fic! Love it so much. Steve, distressed by the mess, institutes a chore chart and family meetings. Tony is expected to sweep the kitchen floor and so buys 50 Roombas and starts messing with their insides until they somewhat remind me of Daleks. Thor makes himself a Roomba chariot! Clint names them! And Steve puts ‘hugging Stark’ on the chart and volunteers, and Tony is totally fucked in the head. It is charming and funny and a certain scene serves you an enormous helping of burning hot woobie.

Love the unusual song choice that works wonderfully (although the clips chosen are occasionally v literal). I love it because John? Very definitely a gin-soaked boy - and also an intoxicant for certain other boys, so the refrain I’m the gin in the gin-soaked boy is made of perfect. I am just so happy to see this really well-put-together (and the vidder’s first!) vid all about my favourite Torchwood character.
