...where there is free internet. I have colonised a corner of the airport with plugs so my laptop can stay awake and help me stay awake; it's 22:38 according to my brain, and my flight is in seven hours. And last night I slept four hours, but I fucking hate sleeping in airports/stations/whatever.

The economy flight from London was actually awesome, there was a pretty big seat and free biscuits and a chemically-tasting noodle meal and everything. Plus I got to watch Safety Not Guaranteed as recommended by [profile] twirlynoodle, which is indeed fantastic, and read The Dark Behind The Curtain by Gillian Cross which is SO GOOD OMG.

I forgot how much I like long flights. Like, I got off the plane and it was all OMG SCARY IF I FUCK THIS UP THERE IS NO ONE WITH ME. Especially since I sort of thought I'd have to get my luggage and go and re-check in and stuff for the Doha - Saigon flight, but apparently not since I already have my boarding pass for that flight and stuff. Which is good but is still kind of WHAT IF I AM DOING IT WRONG AND LOSE MY LUGGAGE.

But yeah. Yay flights! The thing is, it's kind of enforced relaxation, which I actually like. Twenty-four hours in which sleep and finding ways to entertain myself (such as my new Kindle Fire HD FUCK YEAH) are the only things to do.

I kind of like this airport. The mosque is right next to the ladies' - like literally, the door into the loos is open next to the door next to the little mosque with the thingy pointing towards Mecca. My WUT at this probably shows the variance in like, cultural ideas of purity & sacredness? Dunno. Must read Purity and Taboo although obvs my copy is now far away.

Also, I am in Doha, Qatar, thousands of miles from home. And, okay, corporate and cultural homogeneity (or actually, hegemony) are not good. But I cannot tell you how pleased I was to round a corner and see a fucking COSTA.

[personal profile] drazzi, you are with me always.

Wow, that's quite the trip you're having. So, London-Doha, Doha-Saigon, Saigon-Ho Chi Minh City ?
Things that are kind of like home are a comfort, that's not so strange. <3

Hehe. I don't think it's a cop-out, but I think I know what you mean.

Hey, darling. You are a brave trekker of unknown territories! Much braver than I think I would be (I was nervous enough going to San Fran on my own and I'd been there before)!

I'm SO SO Sorry I didn't make it on Friday night - I didn't end up making either farewell - I'd been coughing a lot and ended up huddled at home feeling ouchie and blue for the most part.

I hope you had a most excellent time?

It's done nothing but rain since you left - I think the UK is mourning you.

Have a FANTASTIC time! Keep blogging - the interwebs needs to hear about your excellent adventure.

*hugs*
