December posting meme: Day 17 (bit late!)

alley_skywalker asked what fandoms (if any) are you into these days? Any current OTPs?

My main fandom these days is FFXV. Video games = not traditionally my thing, but FFXV overcame that with the power of friendship. (And kidnapping - sodsta introduced me to it by showing me the bit where one of the main characters gets kidnapped and there’s some level of off-screen torture).

I’m still like, delighted to see a choice bit of Buffy/Faith art, etc, like I never really leave old fandoms. But FFXV is definitely the main one; I’ve done a ton of RPing there, which I never did before this fandom, and that got me through the first lockdown. I hope to write more fic!


OTPs in that fandom - no worries if you don’t know who these people are, lol. I will happily ship any chocobro pairing, as well as OT4! They’re charming and delightful. And there’s a lot of similarities and differences among them all, which helps a lot - like, Ignis and Prompto are both really determined and will always do the work to get things done, they’re both nerdy, and imo they both feel a need to prove themselves and provide certain things to the others in order to deserve their spot. But they’re also really different, which allows for a lot of cute comedy or conflict, depending on where you take it. And I’d say different versions of that are true for all the pairings within the OT4.

The bros are definitely where the bulk of my attention goes, if only because it’s most of the fic. Otherwise I like Ardyn, the villain, abusing them in darkfic; I find Aranea/Prompto adorable, and I love the idea of them being bruised and a bit drunk and helping each other through World of Ruin; and Luna/Nyx is awesome, or Luna/Crowe.

I do love a good bit of Somnus/Ardyn and weep in my soul that there isn’t more. I honestly blame the antis for this, because like, I played Episode Ardyn and was like ‘surely, a metric fuckton of Somnus/Ardyn is forthcoming.’ I wasn’t necessarily thinking it’d be GOOD, but I thought it’d be THERE. You have our much-loved villain being unfairly maligned and imprisoned - by his little brother, who’s taking the throne. The brothers clearly loved each other once, and are fighting painfully over how to handle a terrible situation.

Fandom loves making estranged brothers fuck! And having a sympathetic villain be crushed by an even meaner villain!* Why is there NOTHING????

I’ll probably write some myself eventually; for now me and sodsta are writing a ton of incredibly kinky Somnus/Ardyn, which is id-tastic and so much fun.

*This is not actually how I see Somnus, but I’m clearly a minority in fandom, lol, who think he’s the worst.

I love that this was your introduction to the game! With some people, you ask 'how can I introduce them to my canon?' and, without hesitation, show them the bit where someone gets tortured. (This is also how to sell me on a canon.)

I find your observations on the similarities between Ignis and Prompto really interesting! I like your vision for Aranea and Prompto in the World of Ruin, too.

Yep, lol. He was like "I'm really into FFXV!" and I'm like "oh really?" in only mildly interested fashion, clearly never intending to play, and he was like "yes this one's my favourite." Because yep, all predictable in exactly that fashion.

It was really the part with Noct pushing him off the train, though. That's just such a *chef's kiss* level of psychological torture for everyone involved.

:D There are a couple of bits during Episode Prompto where Aranea looks really worried about him, then wipes it off her face when Prompto looks at her. I want them to be like, drinking buddies, and slowly help each other through "who am I when I'm not a mercenary" and "who am I given... everything" and all the fear of the World of Ruin. Maybe have bad-idea sex which is still a better coping mechanism than all the alternatives, and then love :D I'm quite soppy at times, lol, and def with tough girl/puppy boy ships.

Cloud and Leon, Seifer and Hayner (although I think he's strictly KH). The rest are specific to KH.
