Gacked from [personal profile] alixtii. This is actually a very interesting one. I apologise for my obscure characters.

1. McGonagall (HP)
2. Cordelia (Buffy/Angel)
3. Milly (Chrestomanci)
4. Ira Hath (The Wind on Fire trilogy)
5. Nasuada (Inheritance trilogy)
6. Martha (Doctor Who)
7. Fred (Angel)
8. Janet (Chrestomanci)
9. Nazca (The Gentlemen Bastards sequence)
10. Lilah (Angel)

1. Divide the list up by even and odd. Which group of five would make a better Five Man Band (like a Power Rangers team)? Who would you slot in each position: Leader, Fighter, Diplomat, Scientist, Eye-Candy.? If you think the team would be improved by swapping one character between the even and odd groups, which ones would you switch?

Odds:

Leader - McGonagall, obviously. Fighter - Nazca (she wore iron-spiked boots as a child.) Diplomat - Nasuada; she saved her country using lace, and Milly is too nice. Scientist - Fred (she's a physicist.) Which leaves Milly as eye-candy - slightly worrying, since she is lovely and cool and clever and a great mum, but described as 'ordinary-looking' a lot.

Evens:

Leader - it's gotta be Ira. I adore this woman and she can rabble-rouse like nobody's business. Fighter - Cordy, you are so cool. And you have a mean right hook. Diplomat - Lilah, I suppose. None of this lot are at all diplomatic but she could do it in that 'compromise or I'll have you skinned' kind of way. Janet is clever and has a very inquiring mind, it's definitely her. Eye-candy - Martha is so hot, and deserves this lots.

I'd switch Lilah and Milly, so there would be less ruthlessness on the Evens team. And it would be comical to make Lilah be eye-candy. Evens still wins though.

2. Gender-swap 5, 8 & 10. Which character would have the most change in their story arc? Which the least? Would any of these characters have to have a complete personality change to be believable as the opposite sex.

Nasuada - that would be fine on the whole (and lead to hot gay sexual tension with Murtagh, my favourite character.) But she saves her rebels with lace, by getting the magic users to make it cheap for aspirational middle-class women; no man in the world would think of that.

Janet - I could see that; she's certainly far more of a tomboy than her double Gwendolen.

Lilah - I find it hard to picture a man being this ruthless - she's a bit of an ice queen. But I guess it could work.

3. Compare the matchups of 5/8 and 2/9. (Ignore canon sexual preferences for the moment.)

Nasuada/Janet vs Cordelia/Nazca.

Which couple would be more compatible?

Nasuada/Janet? They come from completely different worlds. Janet, having travelled from our own to live in another, might acclimatise, but they're just very different people. Horrible relationship waiting to happen.

Cordelia/Nazca could actually work. Nazca has some strong similarities to Angel, and I think Cordelia could be the same sort of grounding presence. Plus Cordy is used to other dimensions and tough enough to survive in Camorr. Nazca could survive anywhere. They win, no question.

Which couple would be more plausible to people from either principal's home culture?

Cordy/Nazca, definitely.

4. Your team is 3, 4 & 6.

Milly Chant, Ira Hath, and Martha Jones.

The mission consists of a social challenge, a mental challenge and a physical challenge. Which team member do you assign to each challenge?

Milly takes the social challenge - she's sweet but can handle people. Ira the physical challenge and Martha the mental one - they could probably do each other's but Ira's a bit tougher and Martha a bit cleverer - she's a Doctor, after all.

5. 7 becomes 5's boss for a week in some plausible fashion. How's their working relationship?

Fred as Nasuada's boss would not do well. She manages to run a division in series five, but Nasuada is a natural leader and would go nuts working under someone. Better to switch it round.

6. 1 finds him/her/itself inserted into 9's continuity. As far as anyone other than 1 or 9 is concerned, they've always been there. What role would 1 be presumed to have had in 9's story, and could they fit in without going wonky?

I think McGonagall would probably work for the Spider. That means she'd work for the big scary guy looking for the thieves. She could be a garrista, a gang leader, but I think she's too honest. I really doubt this would work, to be honest - everyone in Nazca's world is crooked.

7. 3 and 7 get three wishes. The catch is that they have to agree on all three wishes before they get the benefits of any of them. What three wishes would they make?

Milly and Fred are both sweet, concerned with doing the right thing, and really important helpers. But they both have a somewhat unusual heroic quality - they worry about the people in their immediate environs as much as or more than the nameless 'people of the world'. I think they'd wish for things like Chrestomanci getting a life back, and Angel being nice to Spike.

8. 2 and 8 are brainwashed by a one-time artifact that works even on people immune to mind control to attack and kill 1. They keep their normal personality, skills and competence level, except any Code vs. Killing has been turned off. Can 1 survive? How?

Cordelia and Janet are brainwashed to kill McGonagall. Now she's very tough, but I think she's met her match in Cordelia - season four of Angel showed us 'evil, brainwashed Cordelia' and she did amazingly well. Janet's not a witch even though they exist in her 'verse, and she's about thirteen. McGonagall deals with teens all the time. Janet would get taken down, but Cordy would win overall.

9. 1, 6, 7 & 9 must help an orphanage full of small and depressed children have a merry Christmas. Who does what, knowing that at the very least the kids will be expecting a visit from Santa?

McGonagall, Martha, Fred and Nazca. Nazca would order her pezon to nick lots of stuff to give them, and sneak it past McG. McG would organise stuff and make sure they all had tablet (a Scottish sweet) and nice food, and a fire. Martha and Fred would come up with a completely amazing visit by Santa.

10. 4 and 10 are challenged to circumnavigate the Earth in eighty days or less, using only forms of transportation invented before 1900. Can they do it, or will they be fatally distracted by sidequests or their own personality conflicts?

They'd probably have difficulties, but nobody stops either of them when they really want something. They'd probably do amazingly well, and then Lilah would push Ira out of the hot air balloon an hour before landing, to reduce the weight.
