I'm going *ding* cos there's stuff

(Yes, the subject line is a New Who reference. Yes, I call it New Who. Shut up.)
As ever, I’m behind on a: your lives and b: telling you about my life. As ever (sort of), I have pretty good reasons for this! But I’m still very pleased to be around, and I plan to spend Sunday sitting in front of my laptop catching up on the flist.
So here’s what’s going on with me in list form:
Uni stuff:
- I was elected LGBT Officer! *\o/* I’m on the Union Council at my uni now, speaking for LGBTQ students. I’m very excited, and also pretty nervous. I AM IN CHARGE OF A WHOLE MONTH.
- Wasn’t elected President of Pride, but I’m still on the committee as a Welfare Officer. I may run for Trans Welfare Officer or Treasurer when we hold by-elections in the. (We don’t require you to self-define as trans to be the trans welfare officer.) I’d feel very weird about doing it even so, but I’m going to be reading up on stuff for the LGBT Officer position anyway; and I think having a cis Trans Welfare Officer is a slightly depressing message, but still better than having none at all.
- Being LGBT Officer means I have an automatic place at the NUS LGBT conference! Yay! Unfortunately, conference and my Shakespeare exam overlap. Oh noes. I’m desperately emailing people to see if I can reschedule the exam, or go to conference despite missing the first day.
- I handed in both my coursework essays! *\o/*
- Now it’s time to start revising! *throws pompoms away* I won’t have much opportunity to use the library, and certainly not during the holidays when it’ll be lovely and empty, after this week. So I’m gonna try to be all hard-working and sensible, and spend a couple of days in the library with books on Hamlet.
RL stuff:
- My granny had a fall. :( Surgery went okay and she’s being looked after, but I’m concerned. I’m especially worried about my grandpa; he’s very deaf, and he’s used to having her there to look after him. I sent him a letter, actually – lots of best wishes to Granny, but it was more aimed at him. I think he’s lonely at the best of times; it’s hard for him to follow conversations. So I wrote him a letter about Anthony Trollope, and my love for neurotic characters.
- I SAW GARETH GATES SING LIVING ON A PRAYER AT KARAOKE NIGHT AT THE GAY BAR. It was the funniest thing I’ve ever seen, while also being really fun. We all sang along and he got really into it in an ironic sort of way. Also, I think he may have shagged this scary bald bloke in the loos.
- I’m really excited to have time for writing. The last fortnight’s been taken up with uni stuff, and while there’s still work to be done, there’s so much less now. I have all this creative energy, and ideas for originals as well as a list of fanfics I MUST WRITE. It’s great.
Fandom stuff:
- *hugs her Circle* I always feel like ‘circle’ is a weirdly generic, almost impersonal term for a big group of people I have such different friendships with. But I don’t want to give a list of the thirty-odd of you I’d like to give a specific MISSED YOU hug to, because even I am not that long-winded.
- I take it we still don’t know what’s going on with
lavillanueva? *worried face* I’ve sent her a letter, too.
Relevant to the above, but outside the cut so you don’t have to read the bullet points: recs for helpful, preferably practical books on trans issues plz? Also anything you’d like for your LGBT union rep to have read?
