Merlin 308: The Eye of the Phoenix

I cannot tell you how much the renewed focus on Gwen & Merlin’s friendship is pleasing me. Very cute, plus it makes me all 0T3-lovin’.
I like the securalised take on the knight’s vigil, too.
Fisher King, yay! I already saw this once but remember NOTHING. And it’s cool to see the Fisher King show up - I read Corbenic by Catherine Fisher over Christmas, which is a modern retelling of the original tale of the King, the Grail and Percival.

KISS, YAY. I am just glad to see them ACTUALLY INTERACTING instead of making the audience take their Luv on faith.

The red light over the Perilous Lands (and the Dark Tower!!) is kind of hilarious.

Bradley James needs to just keep making faces forever.
Gwaine/Merlin bonding ♥ Somewhere Arthur is saying make a man a fool and he calls you a thief my foot!! YOU’RE STEALING MY BOY! and he doesn’t know why :)
Ooh-er, wyverns. FIGHT SCENE!
Bradley has actually rocked the no-dialogue acting in this one.
Something that’s really nice about Merlin is that it shows how incredibly stupid the Lone Hero thing is. Arthur buys into it and that tradition, but the programme not only shows the necessity of having help, it doesn’t ever make him seem less heroic for it. :D
That was a pull moment, not a push moment, Gwaine!
Yay mythology moment! And again, even though it was Merlin’s quest and his powers are strong, he will need help :)
I like how Merlin ends up on his knees, offering something to the king. All this subverted stuff of the vigil to prove you’re worthy, before you’re knighted and ready to protect your kingdom.
ARTHUR: *gives Merlin an arm-bump*
GWAINE: *gives Merlin a hug*
MERLIN: See! You used to show me affection like that! A BOY HAS NEEDS!
LOL, I love Gwaine ~slow-moing away with his hair ~flowing.
The cute Arthur/Merlin scene followed by the painful Morgana/Gwen scene hurts my heart. :(
But! We’ve clearly started the build to the series climax. HUZZAH.

Date: 2011-09-28 03:24 pm (UTC)I LOVE Bradley's acting in it. Someone give that boy some credit soon! He's GOOD, kay? Kay? Just take a look at this ep and the one with his mother in it (what, I fail at names and can't recall the title, you know which one, right? :-) ) and HE IS AWESOME! Yes, I'm a total fanboy and covet his body and all that shit, but seriously, good acting is still there. I cringe all the more when the ones I like fall flat.
Great observation about being heroic and not alone.

Date: 2011-09-29 11:06 pm (UTC)YES! They are both so amazing! Colin made my heart break all over for Merlin when it had just broken for Arthur seconds before. And then Uther is all fatherly and loving for once and I broke a THIRD time! ASH and Bradley have the BEST on-screen relation there. Ohwow.
And now I had to go upload two of my icons from that ep to DW :-)
