Merlin 309: Love in the Time of Dragons

The sparkly powder and King Giles’ suspicion bring to mind Buffy S5. “It’s obviously magical in origin. It’s so... shiny!”

MERLIN IS SO STEALTH.
I love Gaius to pieces, he’s my most favouritest character. So I am torn between glee (a Gaius-heavy episode!) and dismay (not something like the imp!possession again, please.)
WAY TO QUICKLY ESTABLISH BACKSTORY AND EMOTION, GUYS. *wibbles* OH GAIUS.
Looking at an old love letter, omg. GAIUS SHE’S POSSESSED.
Merlin’s teasing attitude is so cute. I LOVE THEIR INTERACTIONS ALWAYS AND FOREVER.

Oh Gaius. ♥ I do really like that he’s not very brave and has made these compromises to live under Uther’s rule. Even though the “healing is my only skill”/ “soon she had mastered every aspect of sorcery” is a stupid bit of inconstistency.
DOMESTIC ABUSE.

Or! Possibly not inconsistency but LIES.
WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT ‘YOU’RE DREAMING’ BIT?! WHAT THE HELL.
Gaius!! That was a very unfair and cruel thing to say! *outraged* He was pleased to see you so happy! He’s not annoyed because Alice isn’t his REAL MUM.
ARTHUR: *makes Merlin do various unpleasant things* Cheer up, can’t you! *punches awkwardly*
MERLIN: How was punching me in the arm meant to help? *pout*
ARTHUR: Er...works with the knights.
MERLIN: Well they’re thick aren’t they?
ARTHUR: I’m a knight.
LOKIFAN: *torn between lolz and ALL THE PUNS IN THE WORLD*
OMG. Merlin told Arthur on another magician! This is quite a big thing for him. And OMG the confrontation between him and Gaius... ;_;
There’s a bunch of new magic canon here, with a spirit world full of ancient evil. What, was the writer new or something?
YAY GAIUS USING MAGIC. That was cool.
So manipulative, yet I still wibble over the Gaius/Alice scene.
AHAHAHA. Oh that little exchange between Merlin and Gaius was everything I love about their relationship, and Gaius in particular. “Perhaps one of the prisoners has escaped,” and his voice just dry as a bone.
And I love that he stayed. I mean it’s obviously partly narrative necessity, but it feels very true to his character. I am actually really happy with this Gaius episode :)

Date: 2011-09-29 09:48 pm (UTC)YES OMG COSIGNED TIMES A MILLION. I know I gush about them a lot, but seriously, a scene with Gaius and Merlin NEVER FAILS to make me happy. And I love that it's this really close family-type relationship with being traditionally Surrogate Father-ish (much as I love that vibe - Giles&Buffy are so cute.)
