I got tagged by
writcraft to do the Eleven Questions Meme. Late to the party but enthusiastic, that’s me.
The Rules:
Rule 1 - Post the rules
Rule 2- Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and then make 11 new ones.
Rule 3- Tag 11 people and link them to your post.
Rule 4- Let them know you’ve tagged them!
1. Vampires or werewolves?
Witches!
Okay, no... probably vampires. I prefer stories about sexual deviancy and adolescence to stories about instinct vs intellect and puberty, although both provide me helpfully with stories about liminal people. Dracula and Camilla are some of my favourite stories.
That said, in in-story fights between vampires and werewolves I root for werewolves. Because they never win, and also because of the idea about vampires as metaphor for the upper classes (parasitic, incestuous, predatory, sexually deviant, associated with old & decaying bloodlines and castles, land rights) and werewolves as metaphor for the lower classes (natural, unthinking, instinct-over-intellect, strong pack/family connections, dangerous when riled. Not saying it’s a nice or realistic metaphor). So yeah, always on their side.
2. Book you wish you had written and why?
The Wind Singer by William Nicholson. It’s completely fantastic - amazing characters, character growth and development, loads of incident and adventure and memorable images and little colourful moments of sheer joy, a clever understated dystopia, a terrifying seperate villian, a breathless chase and a completely joyous climax. It is a MARVELLOUS example of children’s adventure stories, which is a genre I’d very much like to write.
3. OTP or all the shiny pairings?
ALL THE SHINY PAIRINGS, to absolutely no one’s surprise. That said I have been missing my Harry/Draco a lot lately. It’s been so long!
4. Favourite HP character to write/draw?
Um. Obviously in a sense it’s Draco, since he’s a lot of fun and I feel really comfortable in his head whatever interpretation of him I’m working with. That said, Lucius has always almost filled me with joy when I’ve written him. Because he only ever shows up to be a total bastard (squirm Harry squirm!) or be hilariously Daddy-ish at Draco (squirm Harry squirm!) in my fics.
Also Pansy. She’s my girl. ♥
5. What song never fails to make you dance like nobody is watching?
There are loads, I love to dance whether or not people are watching :D One song I can’t listen to when walking along with my ipod, because I can’t stop my hips twitching, is Everybody Loves Me by One Republic.
6. Favourite painting?

I have a postcard of it above my bed.
7. Insightful thing you wish you had said?
Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.
8. Do you like fanvids? If so, what is one of your favourites?
I love fanvids! And I’ve previously recced this, but one of my favourites is I Just Had Sex for Thor, by
mresundance. Seriously hilarious, lots of Thor/Loki moments, and a bit of cool meta about ideals of masculinity if you want it.
But mostly it’s just HYSTERICAL.
9. Severus Snape - what do you think his theme tune would be?
10. What is one of your favourite fics of all time?
I was talking to
pola_bear about this one yesterday - A Slytherin in Gryffindor Clothing by
mahaliem. I love the excellent plot, I love the characterisation, and
mahaliem is, as always, screamingly funny. There are loads of great little emotional moments too, amidst the LOLs of Draco waking in an alternate universe where he’s a Gryffindor. Most especially when Draco looks at Harry, who in this universe was never the Boy Who Lived, never fought Voldemort, never got to be a hero - just a bratty Slytherin with daddy issues. (Which is explained v well.) Draco looks at this boy he hated and thinks that even if this world doesn’t know, he still knows Harry is special, is brave.
♥
Also the ending kind of breaks my heart. Draco promises this Harry, who is full of abandonment issues, that he won’t leave, and they kiss in the rain. And then he’s yanked back to his own world. In the end there’s a semi-happy ending between our own Harry and Draco, but that part is just so sad.
11. Favourite Harry Potter film?
Prisoner of Azkaban. When I did this massive HP film marathon last year with
mokatiki and
nixied, PoA is the one I was determined to stay awake all the way through. Fun moments, a unity of atmosphere, and I like the music.
Okaaay so I tag

My eleven questions:
1. Favourite place you’ve been?
2. Favourite place you’d like to go?
3. Favourite character to read (within your fandoms/RPGs)?
4. Favourite character to write/draw/etc (likewise)?
5. If I showed up at your doorstep, what would you want to do with me first?
6. Tell me something that fills you with irrational rage. (Or rational rage, I suppose.)
7. What would you tell your fifteen-year-old self?
8. How did you get into fandom?
9. What’s your favourite item of clothing/accessory?
10. I’ll write whatever fic you want. What do you want?
11. Why are you doing that?

Date: 2012-05-20 03:16 pm (UTC)It's fantastic, and sadly obscure. It's actually the start of a trilogy - they're all great books but the first is my favourite, mostly because of the shifts in tone and genre throughout. My best friend's favourite is the second because she likes angst more than adventure yarns for kids :)
