Ack internet

My internet at the hotel's messed up - that is, it's connected and working but I can't use it. It keeps telling me I need a browser log-in, and redirecting me to a page via microsoft.com to a page with what looks like an IP in the URL. It wants a username and password and things, 'exactly what my ISP gave me', except of course this is a public network via my hotel. Same thing happened when I tried logging on to someone's unsecured wifi. Any ideas for what I can do other than try to get the password/username/whatever off the hotel people, which should be entertaining considering the size of the language barrier?
This has never happened to me before and it seemed to happen completely at random, but it does seem like my laptop is doing it, not the networks, since they're still showing up fine. (Although annoyingly my Kindle was too slow for me to really do anything. This shouldn't be inflicted on someone still very much recovering from a stomach bug, ffs.)
Anyway. I'll be at work for another couple of hours doing lesson-planning - if someone could help me out or give me a link to somewhere I can use to help me out, that would be FANTASTIC. My Google-fu is weak today, it seems.
I use Windows and Firefox (though Chrome didn't seem to work, either.) PLEASE GUYS. WILL SWAP PR0N FOR INTERWEBZ.
I LOGGED ONTO DREAMWIDTH ON A WORK COMPUTER, THAT IS THE EXTENT OF MY DESPERATION.
