lokifan: Text "I'll take orders, I like taking orders, just tell me what to do" (I like taking orders)
My internet at the hotel's messed up - that is, it's connected and working but I can't use it. It keeps telling me I need a browser log-in, and redirecting me to a page via microsoft.com to a page with what looks like an IP in the URL. It wants a username and password and things, 'exactly what my ISP gave me', except of course this is a public network via my hotel. Same thing happened when I tried logging on to someone's unsecured wifi. Any ideas for what I can do other than try to get the password/username/whatever off the hotel people, which should be entertaining considering the size of the language barrier?

This has never happened to me before and it seemed to happen completely at random, but it does seem like my laptop is doing it, not the networks, since they're still showing up fine. (Although annoyingly my Kindle was too slow for me to really do anything. This shouldn't be inflicted on someone still very much recovering from a stomach bug, ffs.)

Anyway. I'll be at work for another couple of hours doing lesson-planning - if someone could help me out or give me a link to somewhere I can use to help me out, that would be FANTASTIC. My Google-fu is weak today, it seems.

I use Windows and Firefox (though Chrome didn't seem to work, either.) PLEASE GUYS. WILL SWAP PR0N FOR INTERWEBZ.

I LOGGED ONTO DREAMWIDTH ON A WORK COMPUTER, THAT IS THE EXTENT OF MY DESPERATION.

My laptop Sidney, after the virus of evil, had his charger go kaput. :( I was laptopless for DAYS, and have been using the downstairs computer. It is horribly slow, and also ‘the family computer’ so I felt weird about the whole thing. Plus the keyboard is awful and makes it really difficult to write.

I got Sidney back last night and I am SO HAPPY.

I’m also happy because I made it through the first round of the Harry/Draco LDWS! We’ll see if I make it through to round three – the competition is so fierce, OMG. Voting is open at the second round right now at [livejournal.com profile] slythindor100 -- GO FORTH AND VOTE.

The third thing I’m happy about? The family is away. (Huzzah!) They all went on a last-minute holiday to a Greek island because my dad was desperately in need of a break. I kinda yearn for sea and sand, but it was definitely the right decision to stay. No fighting with them, plus FREEEEEEEEEDOM.

Saw my cousin today. He’s sixteen and a bit of a twat; I’m kind of waiting for him to grow out of it. I love him though, and he’s always been the cousin I get on with the best. He’s a sweetheart even if he’s arrogant: he’s in London because he’s looking after his great-uncle, out of the goodness of his heart. His great-uncle is lazy and yells a lot: I know that last because he took great exception to a girl calling his flat for Ivan, even after I explained that I’m his cousin not a Hot Older Woman. I’m really impressed: my poor cousin has been very, very bored and missing his girlfriend but still Super Stoic. It’s a shame he felt the need to grow the massive beard – seriously WHY – but still.

Hopefully he’ll grow out of the Thatcherism.

I am finally up-to-date with my friends' list. Since the computer still isn't fixed this is a state that cannot last, but it's lovely to feel like I actually know what's going on instead of perpetually being a week behind. I love this icon; using it right now just makes me feel even more on top of things, since I usually only break it out when I've just been away for a fortnight.

*sighs and goes to work on back-burner-ed fic*

I am more-or-less back online, in the sense that I'm using Middle Sister's computer and she is very tolerant. Oh, interwebs, did you miss me? You make everything OK. Even the fact that I have been struck down by a nasty cold. This cold is particularly nasty because I thought 'it's not that bad' and wrote 1000 words of [personal profile] enchanted_jae's przzie, before I read it back and realised it was gibberish. Dispiriting.

But everything is all right again, because Wendy Cope is going to be speaking at Warwick University soon. She is a great poet. A little while after that, Helen Dunmore. I've got to figure out a way to be there for at least one of them. Two hours in a car is as nothing to me.

I have been fighting not to unleash a shower of quotes - damn, one got past me! - from Wendy Cope in this post. Now I feel this is pointless. So I sign off saying thank you, slash and funny flist, for entertaining me while I feel unwell. Visiting relatives tomorrow I shall spend a blissful evening, lost/ in carnal thoughts of you.

My computer is dying, nearly dead. Not only can I hardly reach the interweb, I can hardly write! And it may well be a week before I can do anything about it!

All right, all right, there's always paper. I think the new notebook from [personal profile] iwantasoda may be getting some use.

If something big happens, or some great fic is posted, or one of you has a baby or something, do me a favour and comment/link here, please. E-mail notification can be used in a public library, whereas pornographic slash? Not so much.

I think I deserve credit for the relative calm of this post. I am extremely annoyed.
