Supergirl (and who she should bone)

lokifanI’m enjoying it so much, you guys! It’s charming and sweet and drops feminist anvils all the time. Alex’s descent into kidnapping and wildly overstepping the bounds of the state really disappointed me last week, and so did Kara going along with it, because I was so happy to find a superhero respecting human rights. But yeah. In general, love it. (Also James >>>>>>> Win, omg.)
AND I SHIP CAT/KARA SO HARD. SO SO SO FUCKING HARD. Which, I know, boss/employee and there’s such a power dynamic BUT I CAN’T HELP MYSELF I LOVE IT. And not in a dark way. Cat FIGURED OUT THAT KARA IS SUPERGIRL! That is such a #1 indication of meant-to-be in superhero stories! And they CARE about each other so much, and they understand each other even while being such very different people -- Cat recognised the fury hidden under Kara’s layers of sweet kindness, and Kara sees Cat’s vulnerabilities.
How happy am I that Cat’s son left? A MILLION PERCENT. Especially since pre-flirtation between Cat’s kid and Kara I was like. All asquee with how sweet-new-overinvolved-girlfriend it is to fish an unfinished letter to the estranged son out of the wastebasket, finish and send it. Because Kara WANTS CAT TO BE HAPPY SO MUCH.
I’m kind of happy Kara managed to fool Cat into thinking that she’s not actually Supergirl? It was so great that Cat was like “you are fired, you have more important things to do” and that Kara was like NOOOOOO I LOVE THIS JOB. Also, Cat always calls Kara “Keira” which is an ongoing joke, but given the identity porn of superhero stories, I yeeeearned for a scene where Cat sees Supergirl and calls her “Kara”. I will definitely write it into fic if it doesn’t appear in the programme.
Plus Kara is so super-strong and always taking responsibility and stuff, and Cat is like, the bad boss becoming a great boss and mentor, which makes me want (more more more, I’ve only read one fic like this) dom!Cat being all surprisingly sweet and giving Kara a way to step back from responsibility. Via kinky sex.

Someone said "it was very second wave feminism" which I was conflicted about -- I thought it was true, but that most shows barely scrape first-wave...
I really liked Cat. Not when she was nasty to her underlings, but when she made a successful business empire her way.

Hmmmm I mean I actually don't think it's very second-wave - I suspect that person means it's not doing much intersectionality which is 100% true and a problem, but Kara is very much the feminine-yet-strong Third Wave archetype - she's in Buffy's tradition which is not second-wave at all.
Yep! Cat's such a great character. Harsh but great, and as Kara says, no one would comment on the way she speaks to her underlings if she were a man.
