Okay, so first: I am still fucked off with Uruguay. They CHEATED, they fucking CHEATED, and they got away with it! More than that, because of it they went to the semi-final instead of Ghana. My dad specialises in Ghanaian history and taught there for years, I’ve been there, we have lots of Ghanaian friends. I really wanted them to be the ones to make history: to be the first African team to make the World Cup semi-finals.

Which may well still happen. (Or it might be Nigeria, my father’s birthplace.) But this would’ve been such a perfect year for it. The South African World Cup, instead, was another tournament without Africans reaching the semi-finals. :( When I’m rich and famous I’m going to sponsor Ghana, because they are an awesome team with no funds. (Also my dad will be happy. He’s ever so pleased at the shock Spain win, it’s really funny. He’s on the phone right now to a German colleague basically going ner-ner-ner-ner. And of course Andre is going SOD OFF, 4-1!)

In other news: HELP BABY BIRDS NOT GET CRUSHED! This is possibly the most emotive campaign ever. The Portuguese government is going to tear down a wall where over five hundred baby common swifts – a protected species – are nesting. In the bloody Year of Biodiversity. Despite simple, cheap suggestions from charities about ways to do this in a non-baby-bird-killing manner – including just waiting a bloody month until nesting season is over. This post gives you links to relevant people you can email.

Still kind of in a hole emotionally: being at home with the family is not good for my mental health. I have eaten a horrible amount of comfort food. On the other hand, there is a step machine here: hardly vigorous exercise, but I can drag it in front of the telly and attempt catharsis through exercise! It’s nice because at the House of Queers there was no exercise machine and the student gym is super-expensive. There’s always running, of course, but that makes me want to stab baby animals with boredom.

Other things are making me happy; the drabble meme is one of them, even if I am having lolarious fail at the whole ‘drabble’ concept. Also, rereading my amazing Crucio ficlet by [profile] drippingcherry. Seriously, you guys, check it out; it is the hottest thing ever. It’s an AU drabble where Barty Jr survived, and it’s in his super-twisted voice. He knows Draco’s got a crush on him, and he’s full of this combined pity and contempt for Draco’s innocence and his ignorance of real evil. He’s gonna FUCK DRACO UP and it’s really hot.

PLUS SHE IS WRITING A SORTA SEQUEL AND I SHALL BETA AND *SQUEE*.

If you are fucked off with Uruguay, can I expect your support for Germany then? :D I mean, there was pretty much bad press for Ghana here in Germany because Boateng... hurt Ballack, but I really felt sorry for Ghana. It was like the football god wanted them to win, but they somehow weren't ready for it.

And OMG, the baby birds. I'm going to annoy my father to help them... my charity account for this year is already empty...

And now I keep trying to resist reading Barty/Draco...

YAY! :D Let's hope uniting our pompoms will result in another goal for Germany.

It's funny how everyone barracks whenever Suárez comes close to the ball. He's definitly in need of a spanking.

Yeah, I knew begging for the support of the football nation would be successful! :D Just to be grateful I could wave my flag for the Netherlands, although I'm such a big Casillas fan.

Hehe, his fellow team members probably already took care of that. That foul was definitely worth a slap with the towel...

You're very passionate about your footie, frankly I wouldn't have known that Spain made it through if it wasn't for the RSS feeds on my laptop (I don't know where it got the idea I was interested in that).

Family is wonderful in small doses, just remember it's temporary, before long you'll be far away. Plus you can always run away for the day or go for a summer job that keeps you crazy busy.

I can get pretty into the scottish league, but everything else tends to be a blur. It's nice how football can bring a family together, even if it is in sharing annoyance.

It's always the case you can't find work when you want it.

Baby birds are my weakness. When we first let our cats out we had to take quite a few to a wildlife rescue centre. I think overall we've taken about 6 birds and left a hefty donation because we felt so guilty. They've got better now though.

Being at home is bizarre. Exercise is good, I've started running after not exercising for an age (doing this couch to 5k thing that says after 9 weeks you'll be able to run 5K in 30 minutes. Scary but I'm pretty excited about it. The boredom is a HUGE problem for me so I listen to audiobooks! I absolutely love them. Check out this comm [livejournal.com profile] audiobooks for oodles of free audiobooks. I looove it.

That drabble is so CRUEL. It needs more. It's just so tantalising...

I literally just pried a baby mouse thing out of Baloo's mouth. It seems fine. Right now he's in a mouse trap he got till I can let him free somewhere. I'm such a mess right now I find it really upsetting. Stupid nature. My cats look like fluffy little babies. I hate it when they kill things even though I know it's normal.

To be fair my running is brisk walking with random spurts of...um...walking with enthusiasm.

Thank you for mentioning the baby birds. *cries*

I'm glad you enjoyed the drabble. I'll finally have time to write it tonight/tomorrow :)
