Reread Sectumsempra scene just now, for purposes of fic and also of avoiding my 850-page Modern Criticism and Theory textbook. Unfortunately ended up reading on through the chapter, because I’m bad at making myself stop reading.

Got to Harry being oh-so-oppressed by the system and Snape. “A dozen detentions!” Oh, my heart bleeds. Almost as much as Draco’s chest, you amazingly amoral little pyschopath!

Have now thrown book against wall. Book has broken spine. Catholic Schoolgirl Roommate knocked to ask what that booming noise was.

Ooh-er.

WTF?? was my reaction to HBP when it first came out. I didn't discover fanfic until after it had, and so it's unsurprising I am an unashamed Slytherin fan!

Yeah, for me it wasn't until I re-read the books with my little brother that I started picking up on the concept of "Harry's perspective is prejudiced and not objective"...bit of a kick in the teeth the first time I found myself thinking he was being a bit of a tool, to tell the truth

LOL, same. I read the ferret!Draco scene, and then Harry being all "LOL I am an abused child but that was hilarious", which added to the glee in the narrative voice describing this poor little boy being smacked against stone made me go all 0.0

Then I reread them and truly saw the level of cute. I think rereading when you're older has an effect - I was eight when I read PS for the first time. So then I found stuff like tiny!Draco showing off about his Quidditch skillz and escaping from helicopters annoying, whereas now I'm like "OMG I know he's annoying you Harry, but HOW ADORABLE." *squishes ickle!Draco*

LMAO! Actually I said it was the sound of my brain's morality centres exploding, due to the message of that book. Which I think is, "morality is applied only to the wicked".

Harry was indeed an arse. :( And then Draco was even more awesome than usual and also having a nervous breakdown, and everything was set up for his redemption... but no.

I try to see it as awesome realism: the war ended before a slowly-changing Draco (not that he was evil before) got the chance to prove he had changed. But I think it was probably just tying-up-subplot fail.

*twitches* We shall not mention Harry in HBP because he is obviously deranged in lust over Draco, but he's somehow confusing it for...stalking? I don't know. Ugh. I practically threw the book when the Harry/Ginny kiss happened. It was like, WTF JKR? Haven't you ever heard of the 11th commandment? "Thou shalt not covet thy best friend's little sister."

I need to reread the entire series, but there's too much shit to do. *pouts*

LOL. Actually my theory for explaining much of the stupidity in HBP (the way Hermione and Ron dismiss evidence of Draco's plans, Harry's sociopathic behaviour and creepy defending of the book) is that Harry is All Messed Up. I think there's a canonical argument, seperate from H/D, that Harry gets obsessed because he knows Draco isn't plotting against him. 'Who else could it be? Who does he hate more than me? I've given him the best hate of my life!!'

So he follows him around, and when he actually gets proof ("if I don't do it soon... he says he'll kill me...") Harry goes into instant denial. Really massive denial. That's canon, I think, unless Harry is insane rather than just very damaged ("THE BOOK CAN BE DADDY!") - he doesn't mention Draco again until the Tower! Anyway. /rant

Canon certainly has some very strange morality issues. This is just one of the millions of reasons I love fanfic, the characters are often way more consistent and oh my! they have logical motives emotional depth! *shock* Cause I don't just read fanfic for the obviously hot Harry/Draco sex that was just subtext in the books.... ??? umm... no, it's all about the sex. ;)

Very true - there are several recurring issues, although the double standards is the biggest one by far, that bewilder me.

And yes, same. :D Fanfic is so character-based, which is my preferred kind of fiction, and JKR (whatever she says) writes very plot-driven stuff. We like characters! We want their logical motives, emotional depths, and brain-melting orgasms. :D
