Author’s Notes: This was written foropen_on_sunday’s prompt, tag. The title refers to Oscar Wilde’s description of a cynic as one who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.
She never used to check price tags. The point wasn’t that it was expensive; it was that it cost more. Besides, it didn’t matter: she had a credit card and a reputation to uphold.
When the money was gone, she kept her reputation: she was too tough and had worked too hard for her popularity to lose it just because her dad was dumb. But grit alone couldn’t get her that beautiful dress.
Then...
The point wasn’t that the dress was expensive; it was that it cost more than half the others here, and Xander had been willing to pay.
