I did my LAST EXAM TODAY!!!
NO MORE GCSES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Whoa, look at me get all capslocky.
I never have to remember another fact about biology, maths, or geography. Unfortunately, my food tech revision seems to have burnt the recipe for filo, shortcrust, and flaky pastry into my brain. There's only one thing for it: I'll have to get drunk and kill some brain cells.
I'm probably going to pierce my cartilage on Monday. More on that later.
Go me for updating! I might even write something and post it!

I leave you on a cliffhanger. Will Becky learn to post cuts to her incredible writing? Or will she be forced to just post it straight to her journal?

I actually posted with the intention of asking you a question, but I forgot it until now [/headdesk]. Are GSCE's the equivalent of exit exams? Do you use them to go on to University? The UK school system is so fascinating to me because, from what I understand, it is more focused on the subjects you actually intend to use later in life instead of just general instruction in maths, literature, science, history, etc.

Sorry to pester you with quesitons; I just saw that you friended me and got really excited about your post :] Feel free to indulge me if you want, if not, that's alright, too. I love reading about my new friends' goings-on [♥]

GCSEs aren't an entry exam to anywhere. We do 10-12 of them, and if we pass 4 we can do A levels. It takes two years to get your A levels, and that's what comes before university. GCSE grades can help you get into university, but they're not entry exams; everyone takes them, whether or not they do higher education.
Is that what you wanted to know? I'm happy to explain more if you don't get something.

I'm actually in California in the United States. I live in Los Angeles County, about an hour away from the beach and Hollywood. But I'm leaving for New York City tomorrow and I'll be there for about six weeks. Yay for bi-coastal people!

And no. We take GCSEs at 16, and that's the end of compulsory education. You can leave school and get a job, no problem.

That's interesting. Most of the time here, if you don't get a college/university education, you're stuck with the lower-end minimum wage jobs. Is that true over your way as well?

Yeah, pretty much. But there's stuff like modern apprenticeships and vocational courses, which are more like in-job training than any sort of school.
