Demon butlers and the boys who love them

Watching all twenty-four episodes of the first series of Black Butler.
OMG SO GOOD YOU GUYS SO GOOD I MIGHT DIE
It’s my first anime, and it was heaven. I had an idea that the first anime I watched, unless I went for ‘gritty’, would be like kittens and rainbows and sunshine. In fact it was like being taken roughly in the orchard then slapped in the face with The Revenger’s Tragedy.

I mean the premise? Just so cool. Obviously ripe for kink and slash, but also just genuinely cool and interesting. A twelve-year-old boy named Ciel, heir to an earldom in Victorian England, sees his parents burnt alive and his manor destroyed and is kidnapped and tortured by nasty creatures. Near death, Ciel makes a deal with a demon: if the demon will defend him from all harm, serve him and obey every order, and ensure that Ciel gets his revenge on those who did him harm, then once the revenge is complete the demon can eat Ciel’s soul. So the demon, named Sebastian by Ciel, becomes his butler.
It’s kind of Artemis Fowl meets The Golem’s Eye except with more sparkly cake and nun-fucking.
WHERE DO I EVEN START, YOU GUYS. Those shiny-gorgeous cake shots deserve a whole post of their own!!
I love the premise. I love Sebastian, omg. I watched the English dub and the voice actor is amazing and Sebastian’s voice is so sexy I might die. Every single shot of him is GORGEOUS. You’d think it would get annoying how competent and amazing he is - the first episode is basically “Sebastian is better than everyone at everything” - but it NEVER DOES cos Sebastian is just so cool.
And I love Ciel to pieces. OH SPOILT PRINCELING WITH EMOTIONAL ISSUES, YOU ARE THE GREATEST. I think I actually love him more than Sebastian, he’s so funny and nasty and ruthless.
The tfour under-servants are cute and hilarious and the revelation of who they are made me,marbletables and son_of_darkness all go OMGWTFBBQ. I love the end credits FOREVER AND EVER, they have incredibly fun up-tempo music and a chibi sequence of Sebastian’s butler-y day, ending with him putting Ciel to bed ♥ There are so many cute, funny moments and then it all finishes in this FUCKING EPIC way.
The main villain is an angel trying to purify the world, and I love that because well-intentioned antagonists are my favourite (y hello thar, Loki and your attempted genocide)
The ending is gorgeous and complete and perfect and I don’t want to watch any more yet - the single series stands alone wonderfully.
ALSO THE FANSERVICE. DEAR GOD THE FANSERVICE.
There’s a demon hound who INEXPLICABLY becomes a human when he’s excited, so he’s a naked human boy in a collar! There is Sebastian bound to obey Ciel’s every order! He is defined by Ciel - Ciel named him, and he is only and exactly what Ciel needs. He wants to eat Ciel’s soul, but Ciel’s still grasping desperately after a kind of loyalty: “I’ll stay with you, master. Until the very end.” There’s Grell, a gay Reaper who’s in love with Sebastian (as everyone should be) who also kind of wants sex with the demon hound. There’s Ciel being captured and tied up every other episode.
THERE’S THE PART WHERE SEBASTIAN GETS WHIPPED IN A DUNGEON BY A SEXY LADY AND HIS SHIRT’S OPEN AND HE MOANS AND WHIMPERS AND IT IS THE GREATEST THING EVER COMMITTED TO FILM
