Yay! My Neville/Draco fic I Want The Hard Centre (Not The Chocolatey Shell) got nominated for Sexiest Smut Story: Slash Couple at [livejournal.com profile] hpfanficfanpoll. I’m very pleased, especially since I am always wanting more rarepair fanwork in these things. Nominations are open for another week!

Also, I watched all of No. 6 with [personal profile] son_of_darkness and [profile] marbletables this weekend and it is amazing and I love it. Utopia that turns out to be a dystopia! A cynic/idealist pairing! A love story that changes both its lovers! Hilarious survivalist girl! Heartbreaking sweet mama! Interestingly done pimp! People on the edge of society who build a home! Rat, who does not know how to use his words and is a Shakespeare fan and an actor and a revolutionary; and Shion, who is sweet, except when people threaten Rat’s welfare, and optimistic and reads to the local kids and believes that humans will help each other and that walls between us should be brought down. And the story actually has a lot of cool stuff going on for something contained in eleven twenty-minute episodes. Rebellion and fanaticism and change and corruption.

One of the major plotlines is this thing about parasitic bees (it’s a magical realism sort of world) which are infecting No. 6, the rich utopian/dystopian city, and being hushed up; a pupa is laid inside you, and you never notice, then age and die in a matter of moments and the bee hatches and flies away. The elites of the city - and a fanatic revolutionary who has already fallen into the two-legs-better trap - die of the bees, and I think there’s a cool metaphor going on there re: the inherent parasitism of a ruling elite. Which fits in with Shion being only the second known survivor of the bee: he is a born member of the city, but has already proved to have a sense of altruism and human connection, helping Rat and protecting him from the authorities when they first meet aged twelve.

Also Rat/Shion is canon and SO SO FUCKING ADORABLE. I cannot even with them. So lovely. So cute. So touching. So tied in really excellently with the wider plot and just the sort of pairing I like; thanks to a certain early line of Rat’s, I’ve been singing “For Good” to myself all day. ‘I don’t know if I’ve been changed for the better - I do believe I have been changed for the better - but because I knew you, I have been changed for good.’

Like, seriously, for a pairing which involves one half being like ‘we’re strangers and I don’t know you and we’ll be enemies in the end and also I was just using you and you’re an idealistic moron’ and both halves being involved in political dissent in a slum, REALLY CUTE.

Seriously. This anime. We finished it Sunday morning and then we all lay around in the fetal position like some sort of PSA on the dangers of fandom, crying a bit and whining and occasionally just saying things like “AND THE KNITTING NEEDLES!” and then dying all over again.
