If you’re still doing fest catch-ups like me, let me rec you some good stuff. Or come and squee with me about what you read ages ago, whatever. :D

Natasha ficlet by [profile] klashfor. Natasha gen, 600 words, Teen.

NATAAAAAASHA. MY BADASS DARLING YOU HURT MY HEART. This is an absolutely gorgeous ficlet in the comments of one of my National Poetry Month poems and it’s a scandal that I haven’t recced it before because. So many feelings. Natasha’s difficulties of identity, choosing her name as her signifier and her confused memories, and whether she can love with her identity so uncertain or if she’ll always just be acting out her training. idk it’s just 600 words of pure, grade-A awesome.

A spade is a spade is a spade by Saku Smith aka Cambiare-Magico on DA.

An awesome little comic about dealing with a dickhead online. I just love it: there’s so much style and personality in the two ‘characters’, and the three panels of different possible responses - with different outfits for each one! - give me glee. Plus the ending proves Mr Saku has an excellent witty girlfriend with excellent boobs.

I’d check out the rest of the artist’s stuff too - this comic is funny, and there’s more humour, but also lots of really excellent and/or poignant stuff about his experience of being trans.

Harry Potter art

To Surviving Another Year by [personal profile] shadowycat. Minerva/Severus, PG-13.

This isn't usually my pairing, but I really like the glow of the candles, Minerva with her hair down and her smile, Severus' wry grin and the idea of them making that particular toast.

But If You Really Hold Me Tight by ‘Anonymous’. Harry/Draco, R. Summary: After recieving word that something has gone wrong with Draco's Veela training, Harry finds himself out in frightful weather to try and bring his mate in from the cold.

Fluffy, drawn with gorgeous technique and incredible amounts of personality in each character and gratitituous arse shots. Hurray! Also, the ‘pining’ pun made me laugh way too much. I love Harry taking care of his Veela!Draco and all shagged out - it give me a massive need to reread The Veela Enigma - and Draco all wild and vulnerable, omg. AND RON AND PANSY. AHAHAHA I LOVE THEM. “YOU ARE THE WORST!” IS MY NEW FAVOURITE THING EVER.

Department of Mysteries by Anonymous. Harry/Draco, PG. Summary: There’s something amiss in the Department of Mysteries. Rogue Dark Wizards are suspected. Auror Potter is sent in and his liaison from the Unspeakables is, yes you’ve guessed it … Featuring: uniforms, running around, shiny boots, fighting, strengths and weaknesses and the totally legitimate removal of shirts in the course of duty.

This is eighteen panels of phenomenal. I love the moody greyscale art and the all-dialogue text, which is IC and often very funny. There’s great action, heartbreaking angst - Draco’s hollow-eyed look at one point breaks my heart, though I wish we could’ve seen more of Harry’s reaction to his own dead - sweet comforting, sexy touching, and dear GOD the Patronuses. They’re absolutely beautifully done, and oh, the ending gave me such joy. This is one of the best versions of the Department of Mysteries I’ve seen, particularly thanks to the atmosphere conveyed in the drawing. And this artist’s vision of adult!Harry and Draco remains awesome: such interesting faces! One of my favourites of this fest.

An Outing by Anonymous. Minerva/Poppy, R.

This is funny, sweet and sexy: Minerva and Poppy go shopping for sex toys. We get them hand-in-hand in front of a sex-shop window, walking home through the snow arm-in-arm, and clutching at each other while enjoying their purchase. (Well, the purchase is on the bed next to them, but they’re still mid-enjoyment.) It makes me so happy.

In The Garden of Erised by Anonymous. Harry/Draco, G. Summary: "Yes and no. It shows us nothing more or less than the deepest, most desperate desire of our hearts." --Albus Dumbledore

The very last piece for [community profile] hd_holidays, and worthy of the honour. It’s beautiful - the background, the boys! - and full of personality - the fantastic tangled fighting poses of the boys - and a lovely image of Harry/Draco in itself, with the image of the boys’ fighting reflected as kissing in the Mirror of Erised.

Harry Potter fic

All I Want For Christmas by Anonymous. Kingsley/Draco, ~2900 words, NC-17.

Fluffy and sexy and lovely. Draco’s teasing of Percy and of Kingsley (in very different senses of the word!) made me laugh, and I liked Draco trying to Not Touch at Kingsley’s request.

A Reminder by Anonymous. Lucius, Sirius, Narcissa and Walburga, R; punishment, slight humiliation, whipping. Summary: On his way to dinner with his fiance's family, Lucius finds Sirius doing something he ought not to. When he brings Sirius back to Grimmauld Place, Walburga explains that punishment must be done by a member of the family. Lucius, a master at punishment, is luckily soon to be a family member.

This is excellent and chilling. Sirius here is young enough to beg Mama not to let Lucius punish him, but old enough to defy him over a dalliance with a Muggle girl even as Lucius leaves welts on his back. Generally heartbreaking. And Narcissa is quietly well-characterised: happy to see Lucius but nervous for her cousin, scared of what Walburga might do. By the time we see her again, Lucius having taken Sirius into the cellar to whip him, Narcissa has control of herself again and compliments on Lucius’ skill with dark magics and punishment with a smile.

Sherlock fic

The Zero Hour by [personal profile] lyrical_sky. John/Sherlock, 3700 words, PG. Summary: zero hour: noun 1. (Military) the time set for the start of an attack or the initial stage of an operation, especially a combat operation of great size. 2. (Informal) a critical time, esp at the commencement of an action; a time when a vital decision or decisive change must be made. 3. moment of truth, crisis, turning point, vital moment, appointed hour, moment of decision.

Sparse, emotional, and excellent. This is from last year’s winter [community profile] holmestice and I dug it out again, which probably speaks to how much I like it - and the last line is stupendous.
