Glee season 1
Sep. 20th, 2013 01:38 amI’ve finished the first season of Glee. My feelings are basically the same; some problematic shit (among other things, “handicapable” is not a word I expected to come from a sympathetic character). Some nice covers. The characterisation and plot is not fabulous but I think the plotholes got smaller as time went on, and I continue to find Rachel really endearing. (Things I find less endearing: I did not know of her existence before I watched. Way to notice female characters, fandom!) I want more solos for everyone who isn’t Rachel or Finn, especially Mercedes and Tina. Also, the queer cheerleaders: actual kissing! Please!
The fact that NO ONE USES THE WORD “ABORTION” EVER is annoying to me but not unexpected. I am surprised and kind of impressed that the writers actually had them lose, and not because of a vendetta but because the other judges didn’t like them as much.
Finn bores me to tears. Perfectly serviceable character but just… MEH. Tina is cute and deserves more actual dialogue, Mercedes is cool, and as someone who was once the only out queer student at my school I have fellow-feeling for Kurt. Although I’d heard vaguely about the bedroom thing and yes: much as Finn had no right to reach for homophobia to strike at Kurt, not feeling safe/comfortable because you’re sharing a bedroom with someone who keeps flirting and kind of giving you the eye when you’ve given them no encouragement at all… eek.
I am going to take
dora_the_nymph’s advice and continue to 2.06, then see what I think.
