Spike crouched in the dark for long hours, listening to the drip of water and the Hellmouth’s whisperings. He was silent and still, waiting; his predator’s instincts could not be erased by a few months of hell. He knew she’d come back, devour him slowly – like peeling an apple she was taking his skin off, flaying him with her words and relishing the taste of his blood while his body disintegrated –

Wait, was that Xander’s voice?

No, it was gone.

Spike waited, and hoped for the black spots of madness to claim him; better that than her devouring light.
