Yeah, I’m still digging up posts I wrote in early January when I had no wifi...

Favourite story this year: Sparking Like The Perfect Match. I still have 100% no perspective on it or idea if it’s actually a GOOD fic, especially since it’s massive and there’s a lot of porn and I wrote it in six weeks. But I had the vague outlines of the idea ages ago and I DID IT, and finished my first long fic after almost a decade in this fandom, and wrote for an author whose writing I really love. Plus I got to do things I really want to see more of, like actually including Draco’s canonical besties Crabbe and Goyle, and McGonagall during DH involving herself in the Snape/Draco situation.

Best story this year: Dashing Heroics. It’s not perfect - I wish I’d done more with the Auror plot and cases - but it’s got a lot of good lines and a sense of what Harry and Draco can give each other, which is what I always want. Plus omg, I finally wrote an Auror banter fic!

Most underappreciated by the universe: Also Dashing Heroics; I got some amazing comments on it that made my whole week, but it was one of the last to be posted at erised and got the least number of comments.

Most fun story: Dashing Heroics, no question. Lots of silliness and snark and Draco trying to fight off vampires with an onion.

Sexiest story: Head of the Class. There’s a dodgy dom/sub dynamic and a bit of tit torture and Pansy eating Narcissa out in an elegant Malfoy parlour :)

New fandom/pairing/genre/kink: Female Gays - it’s my first time writing voyeurism, or (oddly, given how much I love reading her) Millicent Bulstrode POV.

Fandom/pairing/genre/kink you never thought you’d write: Female Gays; voyeurism/exhbitionism isn’t really one of my kinks.
.
"Holy crap, that's wrong even for you”: Sparking Like The Perfect Match; at one point McGonagall describes what Snape is doing to Draco as “extortion”. To some degree she’s right, it’s a fucked-up situation: Draco agrees to perform sex magic with Severus in return for protection for himself and his family. Now Severus is actually doing this at least in part because it allows him to protect the Malfoys and argue that they’re useful, but Draco doesn’t know that. And he doesn’t know the spell they’re doing together is actually anti-Voldemort, meaning Voldemort could find out and kill him without Draco ever knowing it was a risk. VERY DODGY.

Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: Sparking Like The Perfect Match kind of shifted my perception. For someone who loves to the centre of attention and is fairly proactive, Draco often hesitates at the crucial moment, and he’s willing to ignore uncomfortable facts if he needs to protect himself (emotionally or otherwise). Writing a fic where he thinks he’s falling for a Death Eater and is living in such denial -- and a DH-era fic where he’s clinging to the sidelines while the others make their choices -- really emphasised that for me. Another idea that wasn’t new but was newly emphasised for me was how legitimately impossible it might be in the end for a spy, power player, sadist who’s lived in fear for years like Severus to do healthy intimacy.

Hardest story to write: Sparking Like The Perfect Match, no question. Thank God for insanely understanding mods and lightning-fast betas. *hugs [livejournal.com profile] this_girl_is and [livejournal.com profile] melusina_hp*

Easiest story to write: A Lot of Trouble for a One-Night Stand, I knocked it out in a night.

Biggest disappointment: Sparking Like The Perfect Match wasn’t as good as it could’ve been I think. Yet still my favourite!

Biggest surprise: A Lot of Trouble for a One-Night Stand - IDK, seeing the prompt made the whole thing come out of nowhere, plus it’s been crazily successful on AO3. I know it’s Harry/Draco corset porn, but still.

Story with single sweetest moment: Definitely the end of Dashing Heroics.

“You’re hoping we’ll work together?”

“Actually I’m sort of hoping we won’t,” Harry murmured. “There are rules about fraternising.”

Draco blinked, grey eyes gone misty-soft as Scottish fog; like Hogwarts, like home. “I thought you didn’t like rules.”

“I follow them mostly. It’s just sometimes you know you need to break them.”

Draco gave a half-laugh. “I used to know that. I just… I made so many stupid mistakes, I wrecked things. I couldn’t trust my own judgement any more.”

“Maybe you’re not going to make those big mistakes any more.”

“Maybe.” Draco’s fingers were at Harry’s throat, hooking round his collar and pulling him in. “Maybe this is the biggest mistake yet.” His mouth was close to Harry’s, Draco’s lips catching his with every soft word. “You’d better make it worth it.”

The story that made you cry: None, but writing the bit of Sparking Like The Perfect Match with Draco in Azkaban, reading Pansy’s letter where she mentions Severus and crying, made me sad.

Story I want remembered: I’M SO TORN. On balance I think it’s Dashing Heroics, because I think it’s a good fic that has stuff people like, so it’d be nice if more people found it. That said I really hope Sparking Like The Perfect Match keeps finding readers, if only because I have empathy for my fellow Snaco shippers always yearning for more and longer fic.
