EUROPRIDE ROCKS!!!
First I have to say "who the HELL came up with the name?"
But the march really rocked. I was there (I'm bisexual) with my best friend (who's straight -- more's the pity) for support. It was great fun, and I even saw Ian McKellen in the flesh; he is my favourite actor. (Please note -- if you can get me tickets to see him as Widow Twanky this Christmas, I will give you sexual favours.)
I just had SUCH a blast. I'm now completely exhausted, but I just had to get on here and say "go Europride!" GLBT people everywhere, be proud, because you're in fucking FANTASTIC company!
I'm lucky my mate was with me really, or I would have ignored my parents and just go on to some clubs with everybody else. Which would have resulted in grounding. *hates being 16*
This was just amazing. It was so fun, and I think these marches really do help.
It wasn't really a problem for me; my family is sane about this, and liberal. My friends include a few homophobic conservatives. However, I look past their ideas because I enjoy spending time with them; they've accepted my sexuality. It helped that two friends of mine had come out a bit before me. (Please note -- there was a fairly small gap between me thinking I was DEFINITELY bi and telling my best friend. I'm not a closet sort of girl.)
Anyway, as I was saying, these marches really help. They show that whatever your sexuality, you are not alone, and you have nothing to be ashamed of.
Considering the fantastic new laws in this country, some people may question the need for the march. But there were Europeans of all stripes rather than just British people there. (And omigod the Italians -- YUM. Shame about the men.) And after the disgraceful reactions in Moscow to gay pride, it's crucial that the cause of global civil rights and equality for GLBT people be pushed. We will not be intimidated.
One final message:
"WE'RE HERE, WE'RE QUEER, GET OVER IT!"
